28. Not all Maine Coons are 20+ lbs.
But some of the males are.

29. My Maine Coone was 32 lbs
He was a little chubby, but not fat. He was a very tall, very long, very solid beast.

And a lovable mush...

I love Maine Coons. I'd own no other cats given the choice, but all my cats are rescued so I don't get to choose.

32. Ours was very loveable.
And he was very good around small children. Even would let our daughter try and ride him like a horse. If he got upset, he'd just leave.

34. Mine, Pixie, was very calm and friendly with kids too.
He didn't mind that they pulled his fur occassionally. He didn't mind when they hugged him a bit too hard. He never hissed or bit anyone.

I know several other people who have had Maine Coons and I have come to the conclusion that they are, as a breed, much more social and docile than many other breeds. Awesome family cats.

I miss my Pix... He was my first cat ever. :)

14. That's a large cat especially for a female.
My largest is 15 pounds and a male. He's tall and fairly large boned. And the vet wants me to put him on a diet.

10. Hey, that's just sad.......
Someday that cat will pay the price of being so damn overweight......

Sounds to me as though the owners are compensating for not having kids, or something like that.....

Too bad for the cat......

It does have such a sweet face, though......

18. I know, it's hard to believe it doesn't have high blood pressure
or something. ANd I bet he has to sleep on his back. I had a female cat who was getting a little chunky and the chunkier she got the more she slept in her back. She had very skinny legs and a somewhat big abdominal area. But she was maybe 2-3 pounds overweight. I got her in as a starving stray and I think she just wanted to eat all the time. She would bang on the cupboard where she knew I kept the cat cans and do a really long unusual meow until I opened a can for her.

11. I had a 28-pound cat.
He was a real sweeheart. Sadly, his weight caused a host of health problems. We were able to help him get some of the weight off through a strict diet. I think he got down to 23 lbs.

That cat is gigantic. :wow:

19. Did your cat walk with his legs farther apart than normal and did
that cause arthritis problems? I have 4 cats and my biggest is about 15 pounds and my oldest only weighs 6 pounds right now. SO I always keep food out for the oldest and of course my biggest one makes a beeline for it

21. Yeah, that among other things.
He had a hard time keeping himself clean, he had problems with his pancreas, he had a condition called mega-colon, the list was endless. I have no idea how old he was (I found him when he was about 10 or so) but he at least had a few good years. He sure was a sweetheart, that big guy.

12. That's really not that unusual.
I had a friend in North Carolina who had a 30 pound tabby. She said that he packed on the weight right after he was neutered. The vet said that happens sometimes, and it really didn't hurt him any. However, he really looked more like a groundhog.

And a family here has a 30 pound calico. Just a tubby, like some of the rest of us.

:hi:

26. We have (finally) gotten our kitty's weight down to 24 pounds.

When he was my father in law's cat, all he ate was people food. He IS surprisingly healthy (except for arthritis) as well.

33. That poor baby!
She'd be a really pretty cat if she lost weight. As it is, she likely can't groom herself well, and probably will die very young otherwise. I've seen some tubbies, including my own Garibaldi (who comes in at about 22 lbs), but that poor kitty would make Garibaldi look thin!

(He's a Maine Coon and he's just very big. He could stand to lose some weight, too, but any more than 5 lbs would make him look emaciated)

He had to help the cat get on the bed. What cat can't get on the bed?

A fat cat!

This cat could hardly walk. IMO the owner should be charged with animal cruelty.

Here is the pick right before he picked him up.
