I was just surveyed by Nielsen
and I found it odd that they asked a number of questions about my phone. Was it a cell? Did I use my phone line for anything else? Fax, internet access. I said that it was tied into my Direct TV service. She said she needed a yes or no answer. Since DTV was not an option, I said no. Nielsen tracks TV viewing, so why the questions about my phone usage. Can anyone explain this?

1. It's a big company
If it was AC Nielsen, they do all kinds of consumer research. If it was Nielsen Media Research (they are both subsidiaries of the same company), it seems a little odd, but, again, they do more than just TV. Maybe they were researching the viability of cell phone ads.

I kind of like being surveyed </weird>

2. I like being surveyed too, must
be an ego thing we have. You know, someone asking what you think about things. Maybe we're just weird.:smoke:

3. They're probably trying to figure out how much weight to place on phone

surveys. As more and more people use cel phones exculsively, screen calls and communicate in other ways there's a lot of concern that phone surveys aren't getting usefully representative samples anymore.

4. I hadn't considered that,
thanks. That makes sense. But why ask about whether I use my line for fax or internet use?

5. Because if you're using it for an office machine
you're less likely to use it regularly for voice communication, I'd think.

6. But why do they need to know that? And
she previously asked how many lines I have(one) and was it a business line(no). I'm totally confused.
