Transamerica...has anybody else seen it?
Edited on Sun Feb-26-06 05:49 PM by huskerlaw
I saw it Friday night...and, just...wow.

Felicity Huffman is amazing. The movie deals with some seriously heavy shit, but it still manages to be funny. I freaking loved it.

Anybody else?

edit: Apparently I can't spell.

1. Not yet...it's on my to see list
Felicity Huffman is the front runner for the Best Actress Oscar. I heard her performance is amazing.

I've heard sych good things about "Transamerca". You've convinced me to see it next weekend. Thanks.

2. Yay!
I highly recommend it, obviously.

From what I've read, Felicity and Reese Witherspoon are the front-runners. I saw Walk the Line as well, and Reece is very good, but her role simply wasn't as much of a stretch. I mean, Felicity was a woman playing a man playing a woman, for pete's sake. Her performance really is beyond description.

You'll love it!

3. I think Reese is going to win though.
I don't think Felicity has paid enough dues in the eyes of movie actors.

6. I don't really think it's flawed
Edited on Sun Feb-26-06 06:01 PM by bigwillq
because actors vote for actors, directors for directors, etc...
but in some years the awards are given to the person who is "due" and not to the "best" actor, actress, etc.

It feels like the time is right for Reese. She's been in the biz for awhile and this is a 'serious' role unlike Legally Blonde or even Election, where I feel she nailed those roles but you'll never see her nominated for those movie.

10. Nobody should be ever "due"
the best person that year should win it, period!

5. She might. I rented "Walk the Line" Friday night
Both Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix are very, very good. The movie is ok...it's sort of like an extreme "Lifetime" movie, though.

If Phillip Seymour Hoffman doesn't win Best Actor this year, I'll be pissed. Hoffman is way, way overdue.

9. They were very good
but Reece's role wasn't nearly as challenging as Felicity's. She was a woman playing a man playing a woman, for pete's sake.

I agree with you on Phillip Seymour Hoffman though. He was phenomenal in Capote.

7. I don't know...
Edited on Sun Feb-26-06 06:06 PM by huskerlaw
I don't particularly think Reese has "paid her dues" either. Yes, she has been in more movies, but not many of them were Oscar-quality (Legally Blonde 2, anybody?).

Meanwhile, Felicity seems to be an awards show darling. She wins pretty much everything she's nominated for.

That said, I wouldn't be particularly surprised if Reese wins. She did do a great job, her role simply wasn't as complex as Felicity's. So...not surprised, but disappointed.

Edit: note to self...it's ReeSe, not ReeCe :dunce:

13. I don't get why Felicity keeps winning
for Desperate Housewives. She is far from the best one (and my favorite) on that show.

20. Because the other TV shows
are worse?

They're nominated because Desperate is one of the shows du jour. I happen to think it's better than most of the shit that passes for TV (particularly on the networks). Look at who gets nominated with them...they're not exactly beating out phenomenal TV shows.

but why single out Ms. Huffman? I thought everyone in it was amazing - especially that young boy. And Graeme Greene and the family were just awesome too. And how about those Dallas ladies? BWAAAAAHAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAA. A very entertaining and poignant movie.

19. Fair point...
I singled out Felicity because she's the lead, she's nominated for an Oscar, and I felt that her part was the most complex...but yes, everyone in the movie deserves acclaim. The actor who plays her son (Kevin Zegers) was particularly good.

And let's not forget Duncan Tucker, the writer...who managed to write a very complex, funny, sad, thoroughly entertaining script. :)

24. Well actually
it IS about the building. They just tell everyone it's about transexuals to spark controversy. The Oscar people must not have even watched it. They just thought "politics! sex! pissed off fundies! let's nominate the lead!" Little do they know, Felicity Huffman spends the entire movie dressed like a skyscraper.
