Can anyone suggest a good wine that comes in a box?
Edited on Tue Mar-14-06 11:22 AM by NNN0LHI
I'm tired of messing around with corks, bottles, and cooling it down when I want a glass. By the time I go through all that I don't want it any more.

I like dry red wine. Nothing sweet. Something that goes well with pasta. I am not real picky. I just want something that tastes good.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Don

1. I drink Almaden Chardonnay in the box
sometimes. I don't drink red wines, but I like the taste of the Almaden.

3. Yes, actually I can
I am a pretty big fan of boxed wines; I was a bartender for years, btw.

Slow to catch on Americans that act like snobs about this are missing the boat---Aussies have been onto this for awhile

When I am buying "Slugging Red" (iow--we slug it), I just like to keep it simple and go for the Corbett Canyon, either the Merlot or the Cab.

Here is a neat article for you to read:

6. Three Thieves
its a liter box, hard to get but made from overstocked wines from the Napa valley. they also make some good jug wines.

also "wine block" available at Whole Paycheck, i mean Whole Foods.

FRANZIA & ALMADEN ARE NOT GOOD WINE. any box wine but those 2 central valley rotgut brands is probably good.

7. Boxed wines are smart choices for those who don't drink an entire bottle..
...at each sitting. The wine is vacuum sealed, so you can draw out a glass at a time without having to worry about oxidation ruining what's left.

Target makes one of the better bargain boxed wines - their proprietary "wine cube," which was developed by master sommelier and wine writer Andrea Immer, and made by Trinchero Family Estates vineyards (which should tell you that Target took very seriously the idea of doing this and producing a good quality wine). Their cabernet-shiraz blend is quite drinkable.

And, while I tend to be as big a wine snob as anybody, all of us snobs would do well to remember that most Europeans drink inexpensive vin de table on an everyday basis. You don't NEED to be snobby about everyday wines.
