The surgery finished, TheProphetess returns home tomorrow

Everything went well, although she IMO has developed an allergic reaction to Vicodin. It makes her nauseous. At least Percocet works for her...

The hospital staff gave me quite a shock too. After her surgery was finished, her doctor came down to answer questions. However, they asked us to step into a private room first! This really freaked me out, since I have never been asked to do something like that, and they didn't say a word about her condition until the doctor showed up 10 minutes later-I was convinced there was some sort of critical complication! Fortunately there wasn't, and she has no more leg pain!

It is weird because a lot of times patients think it must be something bad. But it's just that they used to ONLY do this when something bad happened, but now they need to do it with everyone, and I think it's a good thing.

So, no more doctors shouting across the waiting room, "good news Mr. Smith, we were able to successfully laser all the venereal warts off your wife's coochie!". Just kidding, but you get the idea.

7. Well, it'll probably take a few years for everyone to get used to the

idea that the NORM is now to get your family post surgery information in a private, rather than public, waiting room, then no one will attach the "ominous" connotation to it when they are called into the room.

14. So it would seem I spoke too soon...

She's been having bouts of nausea all day long, to the point that we couldn't bring her home because she would get sick simply by trying to sit up. Finally, it passed enough to get her into the car, but the drive home is an hour at best-and today I of course took it slowly. Every bump in the road almost had her throwing up. She finally did once we got home, but at least now she can sleep in a dark, quiet room.

This has been horrible for her, and nervewracking for me. I need a drink.

How grueling for you both!

Anesthesia is absorbed by the body's tissues, and can take awhile to wear off....

That may contribute to her nausea......By all means, stay in touch with her doctor if you think the situation warrants it!

I am glad to hear you both made it home, however!

Helps if it's taken on a full stomach. But even then, some people can't tolerate it. I'm sensitive to Erythromycin - does the same thing to me so I always ask for a different antibiotic if that one is suggested.

For me, I can eat Vicodin like popcorn, but Percocet seriously messes me up. For her it's the opposite.

A similar thing happened to my poor husband when I was having gall bladder surgery many moons ago. Pre-HIPAA, I was under anesthesia and the surgeon saw something he didn't like and was trying to get another specialist. So, they PAGED the poor guy and he went to the information desk and the lady there said, Mr. Midlo? Yes, Sir, Dr. Surgeon needs to speak with you. Obviously, all it was was telling him that the surgery would be delayed a bit until the other surgeon showed up, but the poor guy.

I still don't think he has recovered. His hands still shake when he relays that story.

30. Hi everyone! I've only got a minute to log on, so I wanted to tell you

that I am very touched by all of your kindness and well wishes. It's very heart-warming to see all of my DU friends saying such nice things to me and EP. We both appreciate it very much. :loveya:

I'm so very glad to have the surgery over with - it's amazing to have no leg pain at all after not getting full relief from the pain meds over these past months. Now, I just have to deal with getting the anesthesia out of my body, so it seems. I can lay down and feel fine but when I sit up or try to stand and walk a bit, my head starts to pound and I was getting nauseous. I just woke up after sleeping most of the time since getting home around 5:00pm today. I feel better but my head is starting to hurt a little.

There is, of course, some pain at the incision site, but it's really not that bad. I don't want to get too stiff, so I am trying to move around as much as I can (plus, I certainly don't want a blood clot).

Well, I think that's all I can type for now. Thank you again for being such a lovely support system for EP and I. Yet more proof that Democrats are good people! :)
