Best Bourbon? (thanks steviet_2003)
Since my star is a little slow in getting hung, I'll just ask, cause until skinner hangs my star (which I "bought" over the weekend) I can't poll.

I live in the heart of bourbon country. It's almost a religion here. I prefer Elijah Craig 18 yr old, but it's also hard to beat Maker's Mark.

A small bit of trivia, Elijah Craig is the man credited with inventing bourbon.

also for those of you that are James Bond fans, his "New Orleans" drink, sazerac, from "Live and Let Die" that he ordered just before his table and he sank into the floor, is a variant of bourbon, as is rye, also invented here in the Bluegrass State.

1. Blanton's
Maker's is up there but Blanton's (sp?) is the best I have ever had, can't afford it though.

2. Wild Turkey - Rare Breed.
I was a regular Turkey fanuntil I tried the rare breed. It's smooth with a kick!

4. I nearly went into mourning when Wild Turkey had the fire in '99
I'm not sure if it was for the hundreds of thousands of gallons that were lost of if it's because most of those gallons ran into the Kentucky River and I couldn't get there in time with a straw.

19. Rip Van Winkle, but I'll second Rare Breed
A very exotic flavor.

I usually stock Evan Williams in my house. But Rare Breed is the best I've tasted so far.

You can't beat Maker's Mark for good bar bourbon.

Rip Van Winkle is ultra smooth.

5. Basil Hayden's
I spent a week in Louisville and was introduced to this nectar. I can't imagine anything finer. It was as pleasurable to my bourbon palate as Macallan's 25 is to my scotch palate.

smooth as silk. I have to wait until Christmas so I can use the excuse of "entertaining" to buy it.

8. I'll have a Maker's and ice, please!
I've never been a fan of Blanton's and it is rather pricey.

Now, Gentleman Jack and Jack Daniel's Single Barrel are also excellent, but of course we all know those are NOT bourbons, but "Tennessee Whiskey." It's not bourbon unless it comes from Kentucky!

10. Can't handle Bourbon myself...
Nothing against the product, just the result of one very bad experimental night in High School. Ditto Brandy, Rum, Gin and Vodka. I guess maybe that's why I drink Scotch, it's never gone through my throat twice in different directions.

I felt the need to say you're welcome, however.

17. Finally, a topic that I know something about!
Good Bourbon:
*Maker's Mark: Could be a little bitter to some people, but I like it.
*Elijah Craig: My favorite
*Knob Creek: Pricey, but well worth it for special occasions
*Wild Turkey, Rare Breed: Recently turned on to that. Very smooth.

OK Bourbon:

*Jack Daniels Black: Not as harsh as the regular type.
* Jim Beam: OK, if it's dollar shot night at the pool hall.

Best CHEAP Bourbon:

*Ezra Brooks: Insanely inexpensive, but not toooo bad. If it's the day before payday, I'd recommend it.
