apparently i'm not an american
i had to cover an immigration march and the counter-rally for work yesterday, and, as it turns out, i'm not an american

granted, i'm only third generation if you look only at one of my great-grandfathers, but i'm still not an american

why?

because i'm not a christian

i actually had a woman tell me that christianity was our national religion and if you want to emigrate here, that's great as long as you share 'our' faith

why do i hate america?

1. Ridiculous.
America has no national religion. Having a majority does not equal having a law.

5. Even if she were correct about the 'first Americans' (and she isn't!)
that still doesn't mean we have a national religion.

2. Thats completely insane
These are the same people who will tell you, with a straight face, that the trouble with the middle east is that they let religion run their governments...

10. Pity nobody told the Founding Fathers that.
They seemed to have quite a different idea when they wrote the 6th Article of the U.S. Constitution - they had the temerity to put in there this horrific modern liberal text:

no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States

That's part of the very very original text - even before the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights.

I'm not an American, I am a Christian - but I do know that Christianity is NOT the national religion of the U.S.

11. Dont people even know what the 1st amendment is anymore?
It says it right there in plain English - FREEDOM OF RELIGION.

Or after 9/11/01 is that not relevant anymore?
