Do you do any impressions?
Edited on Mon Dec-08-03 06:02 PM by BurtWorm
Or do you do impressions of impressionists' impressions?

I used to do an okay Lyndon Johnson. Of course it was based entirely on David Frye's. And my Reagan only goes so far as "Well..." (with head slightly cocked) which I completely ripped off from Jim Morris.

I do an okay Billie Holliday singing "You're My Thrill."

5. Did a mean Rush Limbaugh impersonation promo for Bartcop Radio
He sent me an email. Said he liked it.

Not sure if he still has it or not. Heard his system crashed.

I still have to track it down. It's on one of many CD-Rs I have stashed around here.

If you hear it, it's the one with the farting sound effects.

But some confuse it with Kermit the Frog doing Chubby. Or Pee Wee Herman doing Chubby. Oh well.

10. Many, but they have a limited appeal:
William F Buckley
William Burroughs
Billy Graham
Fred Mac Dowell (speaking voice only)
Rev CL Franklin
Lou Reed
all of the Rolling Stones' speaking voices (Bill is actually the hardest)
James Dickey
Vincent Price

I also do a really good Walken and Peter Lorre (but who can't?)
It's a lot of fun to drive your wife nuts by singing "Positively 4th Street" as Peter Lorre. Try it!

The tongue. The pencil. The eyes rolling back in the head. The words you may have come across once in your life.

he can't top Cicely Tyson, but he's very funny (or so I think) rattling on about "that devil hoss" or "peoples thinks I'm crazy to talk to this ol' tree."

Don't give me any ideas! :toast:

11. I am known in several counties for my Elvis Costello impression....
Think of a wittily Noel Coward-esque phrase, like, "You are my favorite flavor of Merlot" or "We spent two summers on holiday in the Hamptons, " and pinch your throat, ululate in a mile-wide vibrato, and Voila! Instant Costello.

15. How about Rich Little
I would roll my eyes back and make a peace sign and I would say "I am the President and make no mistakes about that" or something like that.

I also would do a mean impression of my Grandmother who was a one of the meanest women on the face of the earth and all of my relatives would ask me to do her when she wasn't around.

29. All the time. William Hurt, Muddy Waters, Gary Cooper, my accountant,
many colleagues at work, Sean Connery, Muhammud Ali (about mid-career), DeNiro (and no, not "You talkin' to me?"), Captain Beefheart, Jimmy Stewart (of course), Walter Brennan (younger version), Nelson Rockefeller, many more.

Usually, I will read aloud from a menu, or comment on some everyday bit of business in one of the voices.

When the wife's had enough, she says, "Knock it off and come on out -- I know *you're* in there somewhere!"

It's easy. Tell someone to ring like a phone. When they say "ring ring," you say, "Hello?" then wait a beat, then make a motion like you're picking up a phone.

39. Robin Williams taught me...
so I guess it's an impression of Robin Williams doing an impression of John Wayne that morphs into George H W Bush. I heard it on the Tonight show years ago, and it cracked Carson up (cracked me up, too!). Johnny ask Robin how he does Bush (senior) impression so well, and Robin answered in a fantastic John Wayne impression, raising his voice into a whine as he finished it "Well, you start with John Wayne and then you simply tighten up the ass". It's so easy, and it works every time.

OK, I won't give up the day job.
