Boston Legal Looks Good Tonight
Episode Summary

"Squid Pro Quo" / Season 2 Episode 25
Broadcast: May 9, 2006

The ambitious but back-stabbing Marlene Stanger (Parker Posey), also known as "The Squid" - the only animal believed to be able to kill a shark - joins the firm, and Denise Bauer wonders if there's enough room for the both of them. Meanwhile, when Denny Crane is pitted in court against his son, attorney Donny Crane (Freddie Prinze, Jr.), their politically different viewpoints come to the surface as they seek justice in a case about a woman who lost her baby at an inadequately supplied clinic in Nepal. And, after Paul Lewiston's daughter, Rachel, returns from rehab, Brad Chase hopes they can pursue a relationship.

I like Freddie Prinze, Jr.

Dialogue samplings

__

Denny Crane: This is completely disrespectful. You don’t come home to papa by suing his government.
Donny Crane: Someone has to, Dad. Our policy is denying thousands of people life-saving medical care, based on the personal religious views of our leader. Nothing says democracy like imperialism.
Denny Crane: Why can’t you for once come to town and we just toss the pig skin? That’s American.
__

Donny Crane: So don’t you find it curious that in our Administration’s quest to stop abortion, we’re actually restricting free speech which is a hallmark of democracy?
Denny Crane: Objection. Irrelevant and unpatriotic.
__

I hope they kick meaningful ass tonight.

1. Isn't Freddie Prinze Jr. a real-life Republican?
This should be good. Boston Legal is my favorite show. I wish it was on earlier though.

2. Re:
I dunno. I once caught an episode where one jackass lawyer (a brunette) was showing clips of Christian Americans to prove that we're a "Christian nation". It disgusted me, because a lawyer, who undoubtedly has to take courses in logic, shouldn't pass off such stupid, easily-discredited arguments as proof.

But they might have been poking fun at the theocrats. Does anyone know about this episode?

3. Yes, and they poke fun at the religious right and the right-wing
almost every week. I think this was one of the episodes where Tom Selleck married a religious fruitcake?

5. To AllieB
Hmm.... I don't know. I don't remember seeing Selleck, but I could be wrong.

That was actually the first and only time I watched Boston Legal. It's not because I don't like it; I've just never gotten into it.

I was just surprised that a lawyer would use such a tired and easily disproven argument.

9. I always hope for one of Alan Shore's rants
when he goes off on one of his rambling liberal tirades. Worth watching just for his loopy behavior.
And now Parker Posey...one of my indy movie favorites.
She's good at playing tightly wound types.

12. My weekly dose of sanity.
I've loved many D.E.K. shows for a long time (especially Picket Fences), but Boston Legal maintains my sanity each week. It's so refreshing and bold.

14. I wasn't quite expecting the line that followed that teaser you posted....
"Donny Crane: So don’t you find it curious that in our Administration’s quest to stop abortion, we’re actually restricting free speech which is a hallmark of democracy?
Denny Crane: Objection. Irrelevant and unpatriotic."

Next line: "Objection sustained."

17. Well,
Edited on Tue May-09-06 10:26 PM by Jazz2006
I was watching it with the OP snippets explicitly in mind and watching for them since I'd read the thread just before watching the show, so that's probably why I noticed it specifically.

For the record, the question actually was legally irrelevant in the context in which it was asked so the objection was rightly sustained from a purely legal standpoint, but I was hoping after reading the teaser that the follow up might have been something commenting on the illegitimacy of an objection on the basis of being "unpatriotic".

Oh well, it's still a great show and DEK rocks!!!!

:D

18. I finally figured in the middle of it
that she was Parker Posey.
She looks good with hair.

I cannot watch anything these days without knowing where I have seen the actor/actress before.
