Yikes! Fashion faux pas! What's the worst you've seen lately?
Saw a young Miss Thang at Costco over the weekend. From the top - faded blue camo bandana, shortie tank top with a skin-tight fleece jacket over it (and worn halfway down her upper arms), a pair of Greyhound-10-day-sweaty-denim shorts that stopped just below her butt cheeks and had been Sharpie'd with Scary Cutsie Stuff...

and black, heavy gauge legwarmers, pulled up tight on her calves...

and flip-flops with sequins and spangles.

I musta missed the leg warmer resurgence, and I'm still mystified about the flip-flop thing. (I see so many people wearing them and then standing like their feet hurt - standing on the inside of their arches, or bowing inwards, slouching, shifting from foot to foot, etc. Duh.) And after growing up in the Southwest, where flip-flops are the preferred shoes for state and local prisoners (because it is impossible to run in flip-flops, they can get wet safely, they're cheap and don't encourage athlete's foot) they have a strong eau de jailbird for me.

1. Hee!
That sounds like an...interesting ensemble. :)

However, re: flip flips. I wear Rainbow leather flip flops every day all summer and I love them. They have arch support and are lifetime-guaranteed not to "blow out". They're terrific and extremely comfortable. I have them in black and brown. They are expensive ($40-50) but totally worth it.

3. Yours look reasonable.
I wear Sofft and softspots, so I tend to really check out other people's shoes. (I know, I'm odd.) I see tons of the really, really cheapies - plastic and foam, no support, imported by the millions from China and India.

I'm not a sandals person at all - I'm paranoid about my toes getting smushed. (Happened a few times when I was little.) And I hate rocks in my shoes.

4. Yikes!!!
That sounds like a doozy!

Seen at Target: two late-teen girls wearing low-rise tight denim jeans and bare-midriff tops---but their guts were hanging several inches over their waistbands, and whatever thongs they were wearing were peeking out the back. :yoiks:

23. why oh why
do girls with dunlap bellies think that they can get away with wearing hip hugger pants??? i DON'T want to see that! also, why do they think that covering it up with a skintight top is any better? just cause they make it doesn't mean that you must wear it.....(maybe i'm just getting too old for this crap)

the thong peeking out is just disgusting. :argh:

ew...

I used to sit behind a girl in social studies who wears low rise pants and really ugly thongs. She'd just wander around with it hanging out! :puke:

8. I think Shane has a whole catalogue of issues.
Not that there is anything wrong with a guy wearing a peasant blouse if he wants to, but I don't think we should be too surprised by anything this one does.

Technically they are considered to be unisex.

Shane has many other issues to deal with.

I wouldn't call it a faux pas, but it was certainly different.

Edit: spelling. x(

10. Utilikilt or the full, wool extravagaza?
Utilikilts are just shorts for boys who like breezes. They're kinda common in the Burning Man set (or in the set of those of us who would be Burning Man sets if Burning Man was not held in the middle of a desert in the middle of summer (and can't handle the sun)).

Full dress kilt... whoa.

I had to a babysitter for my daughter!

Maybe in the future, when she's much older, I'll just bring her along.

(BTW-I like utilikilts. Takes a secure man to wear one.)

31. I saw a guy (contractor? roofer?) in a Utilikilt in a gas station
Without thinking, I said "That's the kind of thing that makes you wish for a sunny day and a long ladder, ain't it?"

The girls working behind the counter at the gas station about exploded laughing, and the poor man trying to buy his coffee was mortified. I forget, I can't get away with saying such things so easily now...

and I swear, I have never been in jail...well as a prisoner at least.

I wear the Teva brand with a really high supportive arch. Incredibly comfortable.

28. The difference between Teva and what I see...
is bigger than the difference of Rush's Ass Circumference - Rush's brain capacity.

Tevas I understand. (They're silly with socks, but I understand.) El cheapos that ruin feet and backs? No clue.

24. At my school after school...
Coupla seventh graders at a soccer game cheering a friend on.

One was resonably dressed, but the other made me wanna puke.

Short jean shorts that showed her flab. I mean, her belly was pouring over that thing. It was gross! And her belly button was pierced! :yuk:

Shirt was red... way too tight, and it was three sizes too small. Meant to go down to the top of the pants, but hardly covered said belly button.

She also wore flipflops, and not the cool kind! The trashy kind you find at Wal mart.

She was pretty ugly. She looked like Britney Spears... Ew.

34. When women
wear ugly hooker shoes and pants that are too short. Ok, pants should be no higher than 1 inch from the floor in the back. Buy longer pants! Or wear flats. It drives me crazy when people have no idea what "looking nice" means.

Trend that I can't pull off now that I am no in college. T-shirts with skirts. Totally normal where I went to school. On days we had to wear a certain sorority shirt, I always wore a skirt, the flowy kind. And I even rode my skateboard in them. My more breezy that shorts or pants while walking to class in the Texas heat.

Scratch that, I forgot how comfy it is and I think I will start doing it again,

37. whoops - I'm wearing a t-shirt with a ruffly skirt today.
And Mephisto semi-flip-flops.

It's hot and I don't have any meetings, so I'm gonna be comfortable, dammit. Since I reached the magical age of 50, it doesn't really matter what I wear; people just think I'm eccentric. We're allowed to wear open-toed shoes when it's over 80 degrees outside, and it's fun showing off the pedi.
