So I bothered to watch Battlestar Galactica I taped yesterday...
After hearing the negative comments here and my own bias against re-makes...

This new version isn't half-bad.

Some of it is dreary and corny, but other moments are actually watchable and even gripping at times.

Even the computer generated effects, half-obvious as they are, are quite good. Especially how the cg action scenes are seen from a camera POV that's changing, with fast close-ups... very novel and probably not easy to do...

I loved the original show and its original premise up to a point though...

Dunno about a female Starbuck saying "frack me" though... :eyes:

And humanized cylons? I prefer the "toaster" model as the one chick had called them...

But it's way too contemporary at times (usually dialogue and outfits, especially civilian outfits) and it's just how contemporary earthlings would react if we had spaceships and all that. Also reeks of 9/11ism at times, but at least it's had its anti-repuke moments (about playing god, amongst others...)...

Still, I'd rather watch this remake's corny or bad bits than any Rick Berman-produced TV Trek that's been made since 1994...

3. And Boomer is a woman this time around, too
I really enjoyed it last night and am watching the re-run of yesterday's segment, just to make sure I don't miss the new one later.

4. I have to say I watched it last night
and it was good enough that I will watch it again tonight. I also miss the "toaster" model, but they did have one in the museum.

5. I think it's going to be a hit.
I like the character development, so far.

That Starbuck girl reminds me of any number of girls on my daughter's soccer team. And Mary McDonnell presents the kind of compassionate leadership that is only given lip service by the white guys in office.

6. It was good
Good acting, good effects, and good story.

Character development: Well everybody started off as unlikable/unsympathetic, and that changed somewhat after the attack.

But it had near zero imagination when it came to the social setting.

8. It was good with lots of interesting twists.....
Particularly the ending, not to mention the big secret that must be kept.
