Statement as of 2:37 PM MDT on June 01, 2006

... Hot weather has arrived as meteorological Summer begins...
... Near record high temperatures Saturday...
... Dry thunderstorms possible Friday...

The first heat wave of 2006 has arrived. Although high temperatures
will be a bit cooler on Friday... they will again approach or exceed
105 degrees over the deserts this weekend and early next week...
while highs approach 100 degrees in normally cooler locations like
Oracle and Nogales. Plan on taking typical summertime heat
precautions.

Additionally... isolated mainly dry thunderstorms are possible over
the Catalina... Rincon and Santa Rita Mountains Friday... with a few
storms moving northwest into the deserts and valleys late Friday
afternoon and evening. Any thunderstorm on Friday will also be
capable of producing strong gusty winds and blowing dust.

... Driest combined fall/winter/Spring seasons on record...

The drought of 2005-2006 has resulted in the driest combined
fall/winter/Spring seasons on record in Tucson Arizona. Officially
the Tucson International Airport recorded only 0.78" between
September 1st and may 31st. This easily shattered the previous
record of 1.95" set between September 1973 and may 1974. Normal
rainfall during this nine month period is 7.56".

1. That's 10% of normal precipitation for the last nine months.
Please send water!
