My cat has ... well... dingleberries
He's a longhair pure-bred. He has "issues" keeping himself clean.

really disgusting!

His sister seems to handle things fine. I don't know what his problem is. What do I do?

Can I trim his nethers? The buzzer won't work (the vacuum freaks him out too)

I don't trust myself with scissors (well, he HAS already been fixed)

HELP! ewwwwww!

1. I've had cats like that
Scissors are the way to go. Might want to look into getting the area trimmed up neatly at the groomer as a preventative as well.

6. Good sharp hair scissors are best
When you have to cut through a clump of hair and erm... other stuff... it's best if it's quick and accurate. The thick hair alone should keep you from cutting your kitty- that is why they have all that hair is for protection. :) Just try to keep the area trimmed up to minimize problems and WHATEVER YOU DO, never ever give him a food that can induce the runs.

9. scissors
Here kitty, kitty!

Ummm, I try never to call one of my pets to me when I have to do something unpleasant, like give them medicine or take them to the kennel or vet. I just walk over to where they are and pick them up, while talking soothly. Of course, your cat will feel better after they have been removed. And give the poor thing a treat when you are done.

2. My first cat always had that problem.
He was a Maine Coone with very long thick fur. He needed help every day getting entirely clean. It was disgusting at times. And it was a fight at other times.

I miss that cat. I love all my cats but he was the first and the best.

11. My Maine Coon is a perfect gentleman
He always cleans himself very nicely - unfortunately because of all of his hair, he sometimes leaves surprises outside of the litter box that just happened to be clinging to him.

Gawd, I love him - he picked me out when I was visiting an animal shelter, his paw rocketed out of the cage landing neatly on my shoulder. I knew he was going home with me.

5. He's being a male, albeit "fixed"
That affliction is independent of species.
Deal with it as one would with a husband
or son.

12. That brings back memories
I had a Persian that went around with pieces of balls of **** hanging off his fur. Didn't bother him in the least. What he lacked in hygiene, he made up with a sweet personality. I spent quite a bit of time keeping his fur clean and untangled. He didn't like the hair dryer, but it was necessary because he would shiver if he stayed wet. Had to hold him to do it though.

13. Argh!! I know this well!
My super-fluffy guy, when he was a kitten, used to get his fur matted with poop. I've tried to block it out, but I remember application after application of warm wet rag, followed by the trusty scissors-- terrified all the while that I would castrate him.

I used to get a paper towel and grab the bulk of it - then set them in a basin of water. Talk about a cat fight, claws flying everywhere. I have since gotten to be a pro with scissors.

15. I spray my cat's butt hair with a leave in conditioner prior to trimming.
helps to counter to stank and makes the area to be trimmed more visible.
