I rescued about 1000 tadpoles today from a ditch with very little water
left in it.

All the tadpoles are now safe in the creek near my house, one day to grow up to be big frogs.

I feel real good about doing this, the little tadpoles will have a chance now.

We don't have many frogs around here any more because of all the townhouses.

2. Thank you California Peggy.
I was walking my dog when I found the tadpoles and had to do something.

We used to have so many frogs, after a good rain they would be singing all night.

My poor old neighborhood is just dying, no yards, trees or grass.

The birds, frogs, and other animals are losing their homes.

3. That is so cool of you
Last year when I was at Provincetown I spent nearly an hour putting tiny sea creatures back in the water after they got stranded on the beach during low tide. I think it's great that you made an effort to rescue those tadpoles. Hopefully most of them will make it to adulthood. :applause:

4. The creek is a nice safe place for the tadpoles, I placed them in a
little pool with hiding places. The tadpoles have a good chance of making it.

Now I am going to have to do tadpole patrol around the neighborhood.

7. It's fortunate the creek is safe for them
Where I lived some 12 years ago we had a creek but the kids in the area were obnoxious. They would harass the turtles and fish that lived in the creek by throwing rocks at them and screaming. I'd go out sometimes and tell them to stop it but as soon as I was gone they'd go right back to what they were doing. :grr:

9. The creek is not well known, many people don't know about the
woods. Only a few of us go there, what a little piece of heaven.

I like going on the weekends, so quiet with birds singing. We even have hawks, small animals there. A few weeks ago I saw a coyote, yes my little neighborhood is a special.

5. That is so cool
that you did that. We are losing our frogs too. They are like a symphony at night and the eat mosquitoes and other bitey bugs.
The herbicide Roundup kills them and that is why they are dying out here.

That made my night - you saved so many of them!

6. I say it was a 1000 could have been more, hard to count tadpoles.
When I went home I should have taken my camera with me, but I was thinking about saving the tadpoles.

The little creek has mosquitoe problems, I have to spray my dog and myself before we can go there but with all the little frogs soon to be will take care of the problem.

12. Hahaahaaa! I read your post as..........
"...rescued from a WITCH with very little water."

I was going to have a very hard time trying to figure that one out. Why did the witch have so very little water? Wasn't she getting thirsty? What was she going to do with the tadpoles? Turn them all into princes after they grew up to be frogs?

Man, it is wayyyyyy too late to be reading things.:silly:

15. I am glad that you did that
I have an affinity for the smallest critters that can't fend for themselves. With me it's feral cats. They see me, and know they found a 'mark'. Free mealticket, that's me. I am a sucker for them, and they know it. Damn bunch of freeloaders.

Creation can be so cruel, sometimes.

16. My youngest cat found me, cats always seem to know who will help them.
Thank you for helping feral cats, we have them in our neighborhood.

Many people move out and leave their pets, I don't understand that.

I am feeding 2 or 3 cats now not my own, trying to make friends with them.

17. Momma cat had four kittens under our deck
and my daughter called yesterday saying they now just walk right in when the door is opened, and go right to the kitchen and help themselves to dinner out of our other two house cats' bowls.

Needless to say, they are right at the age to be found a home for. My son thinks he may have homes for two of them, but my daughter is angling for the poofy-haired grey striped one.

I am such a sucker.

19. You are not a sucker, just a good person.
I had a kitten do that, his mother was feral but he wasn't.

He just walked in the house and stayed.

18. It's not easy being green, Thank you for making it easier!
We raised a toad tadpole and had him as a pet toad. Named him "Boop-boop" because he always hopped with two hops. One summer night a cool breeze blew in through the cat door, he felt the call of the wild, and jumped from his terrarium to the table, to the open dishwasher door, and then to the floor and out the cat door. We very rarely see a toad in our yard, but I went out one night several weeks later with a flashlight to put some veggie peelings in the compost pile, and saw Boop-boop hopping about , probably making a good meal of all the little bugs that come out at night.
I love the sound of the chorus of Spring Peepers at the pond near the house where I grew up. There were so many it sounded like sleigh bells on the harnesses of many teams of horses.

20. We used to have so many frogs, so many that after a hard rain the
frogs would sing so loud that it was hard to sleep.

No more, to much concrete and townhouses.
