NOW Britney Spears would be a pretty scary next-door neighbour, but is Mel Gibson over-reacting by selling his mansion to get away from her?

The gazillionaire, who lives next door to Spears in a gated community in Malibu, California, is reportedly packing up his wife and 10 thousand kids and putting his $24 million mansion on the market to get away from the beleaguered pop star. Spears, who has been visited by police and family services this year, also has a steady stream of fans gathering outside the gates.

"People are always hanging around outside the gates and he is worried his kids might get hurt," a source reportedly said.

The Gibsons' new home is set to be a 4ha ranch in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains, which set the former NIDA student back $8 million. It is also closer to the $5 million church he has built for the ultra-conservative Catholic sect he follows. The new home has seven bedrooms.

Gibson belongs to a Catholic sect that doesn't believe in the validity of the Vatican II declarations, and by proxy doesn't recognize the validity of any popes since then. They do their masses only in latin, and run their church much like an orthodox Catholic church might have been run 100 years ago.

No way I want my daughter growing up in a neighborhood with a racist, bible-beating freak like him and his sons... at least, not if I had her money. Being normal, I have to live where I can.
