I think one of my DSL filters was fried this afternoon...
I just spent over an hour with tech support, because I couldn't get my connection back after a thunderstorm caused a brown-out. He finally gave up, and arranged for an engineer to call me tomorrow. Then I tried a virus check, which came out clean.

Then I thought, what the heck, maybe I'll try a different filter. And here I am.

Anybody ever have this happen?

1. At least you're here...
All's well that ends well and all that...

I'll be interested in hearing what the tech has to say tomorrow, though. I plan to get DSL in a month or so if things go as I hope they will...and we get a LOT of lightning here, which always worries me.

Let me know...

:hi:

2. I've seen it happen any number of times.
I work for an ISP. ;)

It's definitely been known to happen. Sometimes filters just "go bad" with no apparent reason. Basically - if your modem will not sync up it *could* be a filter. Easiest way to check for that is to unplug every phone cord attached device in the home with the exception of the modem. If the modem syncs up start plugging filters/phone lines back in until the modem loses sync again. You will have found your bad filter.

3. We just realized tonight
that we can plug the phone line into the UPS. We're going to re-route wires tomorrow. I'm pretty sure the brownout is responsible for this.
