"Rock me Baby" - brave new concept or is TV out of ideas to peddle?

There's also "Jake 2.0" - my answer to which is readily a "No way 1.0" - my answer is so good it doesn't even need any revisioning! Jake 2.0 is just stupid and is just signal fodder for the shows sci-fi channel will air 3 years from now. I'm amazed, UPN's promo page calls it "based on the real life, beyond-state-of-the-art nanotechnology..." Uh-huh, if it's based on real-life, what's Jake doing communicating telepathically with other computers; to figure out what ORAC stands for?! :eyes: http://www.upn.com/shows/fallpreview_2003/show05.shtml Boy, I hope you get the ORAC reference... :-)

If you're going to do sci-fi, make it using visionary concepts for the future and keep it without technobabble bullshit to make it sound soothing.

1. Honestly, I don't care...
Edited on Wed Jul-30-03 08:10 PM by wyldwolf
TV has always had it's share of programming I don't like and programming I do like. I choose to watch what I like and ignore what I don't. Why waste mental energy lamenting what you don't like?

2. Because I'm single?
:-)

You're right though, in a way... in an ideal world I'd agree with you 100%.

On the other hand, when I find a TV show that doesn't try to dumb down to the public in order to get pointless ratings, I'll shout the show's title from a rooftop.

Until then, I will lament. Bad TV needs to be pointed out and somehow we need to convince the dingalings who rate the shows that, in order to have high quality tv, going for instant-all ratings virtually never works. And instant-all naturally has to cater to everybody without offending them and/or dumbing down the audience, the latter is a natural repuke tactic.

3. Get a mate!
Honestly, there is programming for just about every taste. I just heard a statistic today that said 85% of all homes with TVs have some sort of cable or sattelite service - meaning that the opportunity to watch everything from PBS, A&E, and the Discovery Channel to the major networks is enormous.

People have a choice. I don't believe network execs sit around and plot to dumb down programming for the masses. They DO present a variety of shows - some very serious and some very light - for a public that may or may not want to be mentally challenged when they sit down in front of the TV afer dinner.

I know I personally like mindless entertainment after a day of DU Breaking News and cable news shows. I mean, damn, after dealing with Iraq, the missing 28 pages, black box voting, etc, etc., give me something light!
