Testosterone makes you stupid
Too much can kill brain cells. Now we can see why those macho men are so stupid.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/09/27/testosterone.kills.reut/index.html

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- Too much testosterone can kill brain cells, researchers say, in a finding that may help explain why steroid abuse can cause behavior changes such as aggressiveness and suicidal tendencies.

Tests on brain cells in lab dishes showed that while a little of the male hormone is good, too much of it causes cells to self-destruct in a process similar to that seen in brain illnesses such as Alzheimer's.

1. I think this is the funniest thing I've read in a long time.
I'm going to book mark the article and bring it up whenever I come across a certain special person.

2. Wait. Is this a chicken/egg thing?
Does testosterone make you stupid?
Or do stupid people just generate more testosterone?
I think we need more research on this.
:-)

4. Bullshit study.
When you start to compare the natural hormone (testosterone) with synthetic hormone (steroids) and call them the same, you lose credibility.

You also lose it when you say stupid shit about muscle bound guys in sports cars cutting folks off. Hormones have a ratio, and some men have a higher one. It's called genetics. If the study wasn't trying, to me, anyway, to cash in on junk science and the involvement in pro sports, it wouldn't have made CNN, I guess.

8. A few questions here
1. Was the harmful dose in a petri dish at all analagous to exposures in typical abusers?

2. Was there any evidence for concluding that the in vitro effect also occurs in vivo? For example, brain scans showing tissue loss?

Smells of cheap fertlizer to me. Be sure to compost it before it goes on the spinach.

12. It's more complicated than that.

Testosterone alone is harmless. However, testosterone in the presense of estrogen makes men stupid. I like to consider myself an urbane, eloquent and sophisticated guy who's comfortable in most social situations but, in the presence of the (let us call them) 'estrogen emanations' of someone to whom I'm very attracted, my IQ drops by about 100 points and I start gibbering. In addition, I lose hand eye coordination, short-term memory and basic common sense.

Its not testosterone we must fear, but the debilitating effects of testogen. Or, if you prefer, estrone.
