Anyone remember when TV signed off for the night w/Star Spangled Banner?
Now it just seems to be infomercials after a certain time.

Man I am feeling old :)

I remember seeing the movie Poltergeist in the theaters with friends, and when the TV in the movie was playing the SSB my friend Ung Ho Yi stood up and we all followed suit. That was the last time I remember it being associated with my TV :)

2. I was just thinking about that the other day
And when you turned off the tv, there'd be a little dot in the center of the screen for the longest time...

3. Yep
Funny you should mention that. This is one of my favorite lyrics, but my 19 year old daughter had to ask me what he meant about the planes.

You said, "Don't wait up, don't count the minutes."
So here I am watching paint fade from the walls.
On the TV, planes are dancing to the national anthem,
So the whole world knows it's long past last call.
I sat through Tarzan swinging through the jungle,
And Godzilla crushing buildings and all.
The light from this TV can make it all look so easy.
It makes this room feel incredibly small.

4. I miss the little round circle
in the middle of the TV when you shut it off. :)

5. REMEMBER!??
Oh, yeah, I REMEMBER.

Because my little brother did that, too. Sang the Star Spangled Banner in his bed every FREAKIN' night at the top of his lungs until he finally fell asleep.

yeah, I remember.

6. sure. they had a couple of graphics they used right before..
...they cut the power....one of them had an Indian (native American, now) figure in the middle of the screen....many times dozed off and woke up to find that figure, or nothing but static, on the TV.

Variations of the individual members of this medley (well, except for Semper Paratus, you never heard that on TV)

Or, for those that prefer the actual marches (including the Merchant Marine/U.S. Maritime Service)

9. Hell, I remember when TV stations didn't even sign on until the afternoon,
except on weekends. We had moved from a place with several stations to a place with only one, and we had one of the only sets in town. Neighbors would come over to the house to watch shows on the 10" screen, and my mother would make popcorn and hot chocolate for the crowd.
