tv & video time for kids

what is a reasonable amount of time kids should be allowed to watch tv and play videos per day? My son has become obsessed with a star wars game and I think I need to limit the amount of time at the TV.

1. depends on age and intensity

I allow my 7 y/o 1-2 hours of tv every day, and 15-30 minutes of video game.

2. Watch your kid.

I wouldn't go with a set limit, I'd find something else to do as soon as that glazed over looks starts to set in.

he wakes up talking star wars, and goes to bed talking star wars. I think we need to have a discussion with him. He also is very naggy lately, and can talk anyone into getting his way, mainly relatives, not us. Things have been so chaotic lately, I was sick and had surgery, now a friend is very ill and I am spending several hours a day at the hospital. The routine gets upset. I was just curious what time limits parents set for TV/video time to get an idea and then I will have to implement the changes here. I was thinking of buying a timer. Some time after homework, and then some time later before bed. In between can be reading, toy & outdoor time.
