I have a laundry question.
Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 01:08 PM by azmouse
How do I get perspiration odors out of clothing?

I was doing a lot of yard work and sweated badly. Now I can't get the smell out of some t-shirts. I've tried spraying the underarm areas with Spray and Wash and using the hottest water I could but no luck.
Any suggestions except throwing the t-shirts away... :P

1. I would try....
Making a paste of oxy-clean and water, and pasting it onto those areas of the shirts, and letting sit for a few hours. Then wash with oxy-clean in hot water. For some reason, it sometimes works on stuff that other things don't touch. *shrug* Good luck!

2. baking soda is your friend
Washable hats, gloves, scarves, headbands, etc can be soaked in baking soda/water solution to rid them of the "sweat" smell.

3. Add a handful of plain table salt to the shirts in question
as normal and rinse twice. If that doesn't work ammonia may do the trick. I think it's 1 cup per load.

Regular clorox bleach would probably work fine as well. Just don't try them together. They can form deadly gasses if mixed.

5. White vinegar works well, also.
Sponge it on, let it sit a bit, rinse and launder as usual.

7. I would also recommend changing your deodorant... find one that's a
deodorant and anti-perspirant if you haven't already. Put it on immediately after you shower.

and you need to try a longer washing cycle and perhaps not as many clothes in the washer when washing.

And something with febreeze is a good direction.

8. Three answers
1. Vinager.
2. Baking Soda
3. Febreze

and a fourth..... lots and lots of after shave :)

A fifth..... wash 'em in bleach. Not only does it get out stains it makes things smell clean.

Khash.

9. I agree with the baking soda and vinegar suggestions.
They work pretty well. But not Febreeze ... unless you want your clothes to smell like nasty chemicals. :puke:

12. White vinegar...
Soak area liberally, let set then wash items separately adding more vinegar to the wash cycle.
OR if items are colorfast, douse liberally with lemon juice, allow to set for several minutes then launder as usual.

13. I add Borax and/or Washing Soda to my
honey's stinky clothing. It works very well. Also good for kicking out ground in dirt from when he does yard work or works on his cars.

14. Believei t or not,
that Febreeze laundry add-in stuff actually worked on the set-in smoke smell of my dance clothes....and remember, they are in a locker in a dressing room where the girls smoke, then worn out in the club proper where everyone smokes!! It dosen't get it out entirely, but there is a noticable difference.
I'd try it after the other suggestions above.
