I just had the BEST Chicken Hot & Sour Soup with Basil Leaves!!!
Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 02:35 PM by NewWaveChick1981
:9 The little hole-in-the-wall pan-Asian restaurant not far from here has some of the best food I've had anywhere! :woohoo: They mostly serve Thai, but they also serve Vietnamese, Cambodian, Chinese, and Japanese food, and they do it all very well. I was in the mood for Thai soup for lunch, so I picked up some takeout on the way home from running errands. Let me just say that their soup is to die for!!! :bounce: It's hot, it's spicy, it leaves me crying, but damn, it's excellent!

1. Pan-Asian restaurants are the best places to go for pan-fried noodles,

pan-seared chicken, and apple pan-dowdy.

5. I love a good hot and sour soup
I have to go about 12-13 miles to get some that qualifies as excellent but it's worth it :)

6. Sounds excellent.
I'd have to have it with tofu or shrimp or something instead of chicken though.

11. Sorry about that...
:) The best thing about it (besides the taste!) is that it's only $2.95 for a large container of soup. :) Their prices are cheap and the food is wonderful.

13. It's okay. I'm a bit ornery today from sitting in an empty office and
putting together Powerpoint presentations all morning.

14. sounds like Vietnamese Hot & Sour Soup
is it a broth base, with pineapple, tomatoes, bean sprouts, sometimes includes okra, and your choice of chicken, shrimp, or tofu? If it is its a Vietnamese Hot & Sour soup called Canh Chua Tom (hot & sour shrimp soup), or Canh Chua Ga (hot & sour chicken soup). Its absolutely delicious....

:hi: The family that runs the restaurant is from Cambodia, and they are well versed in Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Thai food. :9 And they put fresh basil in their soups, and it is WONDERFUL! :hi:

16. they probably use Thai Basil
which is a bit different than the basil we are used to seeing in our grocery stores. Thai Basil has a wonderful flavor to it, and looks different: it is a green leaf but has a purple stem. Its a beautiful plant in itself, AND it tastes fantastic!! I make a Thai Basil Beef that is scrumptious, and uses this Thai Basil. I find it in our local Asian market...
