Poll question: Is chicken a vegetable?
Unlike Tomatoes, which exist in some sort of nether-region between fruit and vegetable- a bastardization of nature- the Chicken is most definitely either a vegetable or not a vegetable. So... which will it be?

1. According to some of my vegetarianish friends...
Both fish and chicken are vegetables. But hey, at least they are trying to eat healthy, so no skin off my nose.

8. I feel like beating those people.
They really do a disservice to real vegetarians and vegans. I eat fish, so I call myself a pescarian, the proper term.

24. It really bugs me.
"I don't eat meat."

"Yes you do. You eat fish and chicken."

"They don't count as meat."

"Please pardon me while I slam my head into this wall repeatedly. I'm hoping it will dull the pain that talking to you has caused."

do you mean totally in a coma or do you mean with some sparks left

the chicken has some sparks left, so that kind of vegetable, the one who can open his eyes once in awhile and send you a message in morse code by the way he blinks his eyelid

hey, did you think i meant broccoli?

19. I did have a chuckle the other night though
I saw a "Simpsons" repeat where they went to England. While on a tour bus they stopped by a "Fish and Chips" place. Homer declined to eat there because "I'm not much of a vegetarian".

Of course when it comes from real people who actually think fish and chicken are vegetables it's not so funny.

21. I have heard it before
But one time when I was out with my roomie and some friends we don't see often the whole deal came up. They began the "Do you eat chicken...fish.." deal and finally my friend said, "She doesn't eat anything that has a face!"

Then they got it.

22. Because of over use of the inaccurate terms one has to.
Some people say vegetarian when they mean vegetarian, others say vegetarian when they mean "I'm a stupid eejit pick-eater", others say vegetarian when they mean they gave up beef due to B.S.E., and so forth...unless one knows that the person actually is a vegetarian, one can't be sure which of them they are.

If one is trying to cook for other people it is helpful to know which they mean. If people would only use the term when they mean it, then other people would have to ask the follow-on questions.

I never call myself a vegetarian despite there being frequent times when I don't eat meat, as I think it implies a moral stance (to which I don't personally adhere).
