Relieving stress
How do you cope with it? Do you have any special little tricks that help you keep it under control? I'm not talking pharmaceutical stress relief...just regular-type stuff.

I'm wide open to suggestions.

1. I try to get in a good 20 minutes of butt-sniffing a day-to relieve stress
and to keep myself abreast of the neighborhood news.

Oh, wait... kinda combining two threads there....

nevermind.

3. Well, if you go around sniffing butts for 20 minutes a day,
you'll BE the neighborhood news.

34. That's a good point. Be kind of interesting reading about myself in
another butt. Um... er, maybe I didn't phrase that very well.

2. I cook.
Or I play some computer games.

If I had my way I'd be on a massage table, but that's not happening. :(

6. Computer games tend to put me to sleep
Maybe I'm playing the wrong ones?

I do like to cook...which is probably a good thing, considering that I also like to eat.

Mmmm...a massage sounds so good right about now.

Soon. Very soon.

:hi:

4. Booze, and lots of it...
it use to be stricktly cigs, but since I quit, I'm a raging alcoholic...

other than that, music, guitar, reading...

7. I like my music...mostly listen in the car, though
and crank it way up when something I like comes on. Heh...and then crank it again for the next one I like. And then, when it's time to go home at the end of the night and I turn it on...

:scared:

I love to read. I like to write but that doesn't always relieve stress. If I'm anxious about something, writing seems to make it worse.

Weird, huh?

18. Depends on the music and the mood
Sometimes, if I'm feeling kinda down or stressed, music motivates me. Doesn't exactly calm me, but it helps me to focus and turn it in a more positive direction which is what I really need for it to do.

As far as calming, I don't think I get that....excited....often. For the most part, I'm amost disturbingly quiet and reserved.

17. I massage my temples...
and my forehead, concentrating on the area near the bridge of my nose.

Works great, most of the time.:hi:

If someone is around who can massage my shoulders and lower back, even better!

19. My high school had a motto which seemed like a potent
stress reliever--

"Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might."

The trick is not getting carpal tunnel.

I can freely admit to having tried drinking, writing (poetry and fiction) and trying little herbal things like valerian, damiana, etc. But really, finding a hobby at which you excell (even working out, sports, something you do that doesn't give you a stress-reaction) seems to be the ticket. Also, sometimes it helps to identify the source of your stressors, to see if you can eliminate something stressful--a "friend" who is really a drag, a situation at work that you really don't need, a drama-seeking person who creates stress, or even a situation where you are shouldering responsibility that others around you can pick up. Sometimes you just need to vent to someone, or at least share your stress, to make it seem less.

22. Okay...I've really gotta do something about the way my mind tends to work.
That struck me in a manner that was ENTIRELY unintentional by the well-meaning educators at your high school.

I'm sooooo ashamed.

I've been thinking about starting an exercise program...I figure that way maybe I can relieve some of the stress, tone up, and stay busy. Seems like a win-win-win to me.

Now I've just gotta motivate...

26. I believe the post had all the intent you imply.
When you are done with the hand exercise consider a nice walk, amble, stroll or saunter. No fitness walking or constitutionals please.

Also a nice thing to do is to wash your eyelids with warm tea(no sugar). Just dip a finger in and wipe. It's sort of a crying substitute for me since I am so macho.

28. Y'know...I've heard of the tea thing before...
just might work. Macho I ain't, but I don't like to cry; which could be part of the reason for all this pent-up stress.
