2. Well, by tranny boy I mean women transitioned to men but...
I do support what the guys in the article are doing.

Oh and check your PM. I'm making the rare request of help from a straight man.

3. I know
I just thought it was funny.

(And, just for the record, not funny in a "Look at the stupid men dressing up like women" way.)

Thought you'd mentioned it, but I wasn't sure.

And I sure as hell don't wanna offend either of the Militant Lesbians. :scared:

7. The ability to say lesbian is the first step in not offending us.

Extremely well, I might add.

One thing I've never been clear on, though: Is "lesbians" preferable to "gay women"?

Actually, I've never understood the distinction — like when it's expressed as "gays and lesbians." Lesbians are gay, no?

Educate me.

9. Gay or lesbian is pretty interchangeable.
I'm sure there's a few women out there that would be offended by the term "gay," but I know a lot of lesbians that simply say, "I'm gay." I'm more likely to say I'm gay or queer before going "I'm a lesbian." Queer is still one of those words that isn't really safe for straight people to use unless the gay person you're talking to knows you well enough to know you're not using it as a slur.

10. I avoid 'queer'
for just that reason.

Well... and because it never really occurs to me to use it because in the old days it was considered a slur.

It's like with my friend Jed. I can fuck around with him like when we're trying to decide where to go for lunch, "Well, you want fried chicken and watermelon, don't you?" because he knows stuff like that isn't what's in my heart. But imagine me saying that to John Conyers or somebody? Not in this lifetime.

(Even so, once in awhile I'll say to Jed, "You know that's not what I'm about, right?" And he's likely to say something like, "Yeah. You white folks just can't help it." Which is why I love his big ass.)

I believe joking about stereotypes can go a long way toward defeating them. But you've gotta use discretion as to when and where you do it.
