Today in music history 10-5
1954 - Happy Birthday to Bob Geldof. Member of the 80s band The Boomtown Rats, founder of Live Aid and played "Pink" in the Pink Floyd Movie based on The Wall. But he is best known for the guy who sent INXS singer Michael Hutchence over the line due to his relationship with girlfriend Paula Yates, and her custody dispute with her former husband Bob Geldof. This made Hutchence so angry that he took off his clothes, put a belt around his neck, hung from a doorknob and played with his pee pee. He died.

1949 - Happy Birthday to Brian Connolly, vocalist with Sweet. He died too. Most of you will remember Sweet from this:

1999 - Paul McCartney releases Run Devil Run. The collection of rock 'n' roll covers originally recorded by artists like Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley is his first album since the death of his wife, Linda, in 1998. The songs are so true to form of the sounds of the era that while listening to the recordings, Paul dances the twist and Paul's future wife Heather Mills takes off her leg and dances the Hop.

1968 - Iron Butterfly performed "In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida" on "American Bandstand." As of today (10-5-06), the drum solo is still being filmed for the show.

1975 - Harry Chapin's "Cats in the Cradle" is released. As of today, it is estimated that over 1,000,000 whiny-ass men have listened to the song with tears in their eyes exclaiming "That is just like me and my dad, it is so true...so true..whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa".

1977 - Glen Campbell's "Southern Nights" LP is certified gold. In a twisted turn of events, years later Glen Campbell is labeled "certifiable" due to the affects of "Southern Comfort".

1953 - Happy Birthday to Russell Mael. Also known as "That other brother in Sparks"

On the left:

1947 - Happy Birthday to Brian Johnson. His sweet, mellow, almost operatic voice has helped AC/DC to become one of today's top "easy listening" acts.

1943 - Steve Miller birthday blah blah blah

1966 - Jimi Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding played together for the first time. Originally to be called "A really really bad fucking hair day" they settled for Jimi Hendrix Experience instead.
