The Dear John Letter...

A Marine was deployed to Afghanistan. While he was there he received a letter from his girlfriend. In the letter she explained that she had slept with two guys while he had been gone and she wanted to break up with him. AND, she wanted pictures of herself back.

So the Marine did what any squared-away Marine would do. He went around to his buddies and collected all the unwanted photos of women he could find. He then mailed about 25 pictures of women (with clothes and without) to his girlfriend with the following note:

"I don't remember which one you are. Please remove your picture and send the rest back."

NOW THERE IS A REAL MARINE!

But that is a funny joke. ;)

I simply do not see it as uniquely "Marine." Admittedly, I have never been a Marine. Nowadays, Marines fight to make corporations rich and, in the process, kill many innocent civilians, including children. I think it would be just as funny to replace "Marine" with "Rock Star."

Do Marines fuck all kinds of strange women all of the time and take their pictures? I was just wondering because the christian right-wing liars and fuckheads may not approve.

but I understand that it is a common fear among soldiers that the loved one left behind will find someone else.

The only way the "solution" works is if it's believable that they had been separated long enough that it would be plausible that he could have forgetten what she looks like.

I guess a rock star substitute could work but a common soldier is a somewhat more sympathetic figure.
