(Actually, the weather wasn't too bad - the rain was on and off, and there were some really interesting skyscapes, especially over the Bay from the Golden Gate.)

This is the garden at the Wayfarer's Chapel......designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

It's located up on Palos Verdes Peninsula, overlooking the Pacific.

I live in SoCal.......next door to LAX...

Frank Lloyd Wright didn't design the Wayfarer's Chapel. Someone else designed it, I can't remember his name at the moment, in the 1930's. Then the war broke out so it wasn't built. Frank Lloyd Wright Jr., who went by Lloyd Wright professionally, executed the plans years later. He may have even improved on them but the original design was not his or his father's.

My grandmother was a big fan of the Wayfarer's Chapel & she told me more about it than I was interested in at the time. :rofl:

The Wayfarer's Chapel is up on this hill.....Palos Verdes Peninsula, where it overlooks the Pacific Ocean.....

If you look at a map of the Santa Monica Bay (Los Angeles), you will see that the southern border of the bay is formed by this peninsula....

And the Chapel is up there........the views are amazing. My pics do NOT do them justice at all!

It was a Saturday, and the weddings were stacked up like airplanes over LAX!

I think you have to book more than a year in advance!

But it is the perfect spot.........

When I lived out there we never went there in fact I thought Palos Verdes was a huge gated community for the fabulously well to do.
Even though I had a native born guide who took me everywhere, somehow we never made it there.
I've save your photo of the Manhatten Beach pier to look at when I feel nostalgic, especially on the January days when the blizzard is blowing and the thermometer struggles to make zero.

I drove my wife around there for the first time in July (first time for her). Had no views of Catalina like that! though it was pretty up there. Saw the chapel from below.

I grew up in Palos Verdes and attended several weddings at the Wayfarers Chapel. Really a pretty setting. Right across PV Drive used to be the "Big W" from It's a Mad, Mad...World.

I swear, you will turn my head with them!

The way you get the whole flower.......you just need a SLR camera with a zoom lens.......

And then you can move the lens in or out as needed to accomplish that!

It is not very hard to master this trick, believe me!
