Let's get rid of Columbus Day

and have a real national holiday (meaning day off for everyone)in honor of someone who really deserves it.

Though how about a larger holiday that also honors Sojourner Truth, Harriet Beecher Stow and others too. Let's have a Freedom Day that honors those who fought and died for the equality of all humanity.

11. Columbus Day is a silly holiday

No one really believes he "discovered" the Americas...since there were already populated when he got here. It's really a day commemorating when white people discovered America, and even that's debatable. Do we really need to honor the day white people first got here?

Then we need to set aside a day for the Chinese too. Potstickers and shaomai for everyone!

But really, how about a Native American or "First Nations" day? Every region could learn about and celebrate its own indigenous people.
