That's it. I'm declaring a moritorium on the verb "party" if you're >25.

That's it. I'm declaring a moritorium on the verb "party" if you're >25.
Overheard in the elevator today:
Guy #1: "My wife's been nagging me to save some money because we went over budget by two grand this summer and she's having surgery next week...but MAN I'm so stressed with school and home I just want to party tonight."

Guy #2: "Dude, you totally deserve to party. You can party cheap. Just get a case and party on your couch. Your wife has fibroids, not a brain tumor -- it's not like you have to babysit her. You can party without her, right?"

I realize what I'm looking for is a moritorium on boorish behavior -- but "party" as a verb (specifically, when it means "drink a lot" independent of attending, or carrying on as though attending, an actual party) is specifically grating my nerves today for some reason.

1. Well, I could do without the "not a brain tumor" lingo and using...

...the word "dude" every three words; but, people over 25 do "party"! :eyes:

4. I'm not suggesting doing away with the activity.
I'm suggesting doing away with the phrase, when you don't actually mean "party" but rather mean "get drunk by yourself on the couch." Maybe I'm a stickler, but I don't see them as synonyms.

5. hell, I don't use "party" to mean drink a lot. That's just "lunch".
When I say "party", I specifically mean "snort an eight-ball of coke and consort with prostitutes". Let's get our terminology straight here, please!

7. initially processed the word "party" as "parity"
thought it was a legal joke.... :silly:

I don't think I have ever used the word party as a verb, if that's any consolation to you.

9. I like 'get loaded' even less.
I always assume when older people use 'party' it means coke or something similar is involved.

18. what about "hopped up on goofballs"?
Personally, I've always been a fan of that phrase. "What the hell's wrong with that boy? Is he all hopped up on goofballs or something?"

11. Yeah, "partying" is for the kids
Once you can hang with the adults it's called "getting fucked up". I'll call people and say, "Hey wanna go get fucked up?". If I ever hear anyone say "party" I figure they are younger than 25, will drink a few beers, smoke a little bit of weed, puke and pass out by 9.

I'm with ya on this.

12. I guess I'm too literal
I'd say "I just want to get fall down, can't get up, crawl to my bedroom, puke on the floor and piss the bed drunk."

14. May I add a provision to your proposal?
That being, one is not allowed to use the expression rock out unless one is discussing playing music, and the playing of that music can't be some light creampuff fare, i.e., if there is no broken glass, vomit, or strong smell of something burning following a performance, you have, in fact, not rocked out at all.

15. A foot note*
I am so far over 25, that to me, "Wanna party?" is what a cheap hooker says to a potential customer.

20. I've always referred to it as "have a lot to drink
with one or more friends."

Might as well call it what it is.
