7. It's all Power Pop, baby!
The Records ("Starry Eyes") would be a good addition. Also maybe Too Much Joy, which covered the song.

The solo work of Black Francis/Frank Black/Frank Thompson from The Pixies. The Rubinoos. Maybe The Ramones as well. And Rachel Sweet, one-time pedophile sex symbol and torch-singer-cum-power-popster.

Rhino produced a bunch of Rodney Bingenheimer's compilations in the 1980s, Rodney on the ROQ (a legendary DJ from KROQ in Los Angeles) which usually had a lot of power pop, like the early Bangles doing old Love covers.

Which reminds me -- it's time for that second cup of coffee.

5. The Plimsouls, REM, Mitch Easter, Guadalcanal Diary . . .
XTC . . . . BTW, Cheap Trick (great band) probably doesn't belong on this list.

;)

8. Guadalcanal Diary
IMHO, the greatest under-appreciated band in history. Murray Attaway is living proof that 99% of all genius goes unrewarded and under-noticed.

28th Day comes close, but they only had one album, alas! Just Cole Marquis, Barbara Manning, and Mike Cloward -- brain-searing '80s psychedelia, and AFAIK they never so much as tipped a single beer when they were playing.

Life may be unfair, but (fortunately) Music is Eternal.

11. One of my favorite songs ever is "Litany...life goes on." Man,
that song rocks!

I have had the pleasure of seeing Guadalcanal Diary a couple of times...they were amazing.

These guys never caught on and I don't understand why they didn't.

15. Fantastic band
"Walking In The Shadow Of The Big Man" is a college radio classic; I love their take on "Kumbayah".

And Murray Attaway is a great guy, too...

16. When I was a college dj, I loved to play "Why Do Heathen's Rage?"
You are right, "Walking in The Shadow of The Big Man" definitely a college radio classic.

I think I will go and listen to it right now!
