So during our poetry presentation last night, a sheeple spoke up
I read my poem and talked some about the parallels I saw to our current Boy King and his merry band of thieves and the war in Iraq. The teacher, who is very obviously a huge liberal and seems to feel much the same way about our so-called leadership, brings up Youtube and the videos that you can see on there. Specifically, the ones from the soldiers that show people what it's REALLY like over there.

This woman, probably my age or a little older, pipes up and says, "I just don't think that's good for America. I wish it were like it was back in World War 1, when people back home didn't see what went on in war. I just don't want to know all of that"!

What the FUCK is wrong with people like her? What's sad is that I'm beginning to feel like she's in the damn majority around here. Fucking assholes, too caught up in their everyday bullshit and too stupid to give a flying fuck about anything but their own precious lives and delicate sensibilities :argh:

"end of rant" :scared:

1. That's sad
Too many people are just like this out of sight out of mind, hopefully by the end of this class she will be asking questions about her feelings.

3. Obviously doesn't want to clutter her "beautiful mind"
How can it not be "good for America" to know what's really going on in the world? :banghead:

4. The idolization of ignorance
that's what's so frustrating when dealing with people like this, which is the bulk (all?) shrub supporters. To us lack of information, making decisions without all the data is a BAD thing. To them information is bad! It's not good to "know to much".

5. Maybe it's a self-awareness thing
Maybe she's afraid that if she was confronted with the bloodshed and death that the psychos in Washington are causing every day she and people like her might not have the stomach to continue to support them.

Although, I get the feeling from this woman it wouldn't have done much good anyway

6. It IS like WWI
Soldiers from the US go off to a foreign land to fight for freedoms that will be taken away from under their noses by the time they come home. Gertrude Stein would say that ours is truly a Lost Generation.

11. Doesn't it just amaze you sometimes?
That people can even say shit like that without feeling deeply ashamed? Shit, if I were that selfish and shallow, I think I'd keep it to myself.

Seems like she should do some volunteer time rehabbing wounded troops.

Ignorance may be bliss; but it sure is stupid.

15. I went with the one by Margaret Atwood
Backdrop Addresses Cowboy... mostly because I felt it was more subtle. I was surprised to find that most of the class got exactly what I did out it. I'd post it, but I'm at school at the moment , on a quick break. If my boss didn't send me a ton of dictation to do, I'll post it when I get home.

it's painful to live in a democracy -- because you have a PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY to be educated and informed about issues.

and here's the real kicker -- the government has a resposibility to the people to keep them educated and informed.

other wise there is simply no point to elections.

20. Personal responsibility seems to be a long forgotten value
And sadly, I see a lot of this in MY generation. I truly do think my generation was the "all about me" generation sometimes. So much for any speeches about kids these days... the younger kids in class all got "it" right away and seemed very well-informed.

the meaning of personal responsibility.

that's just a phrase used to describe the character defects of poor folk today.

19. She should read "Dulce et Decorum Est."
On second thought, why bother? People like her provide one of the primary disconnects leading to the fall of nations and empires. She might as well have said "Let them eat Cake!"

One of the guys did it and did a very good job with it. I have a feeling it flew right over her head though.

27. "We'd still be fighting WWII if we had worried about 'collateral damage'"
...another variation on this basic Repuke talking point I saw posted recently on another site, that we shouldn't concern ourselves with what actually goes on in the name of "defending our way of life"... :puke:

28. Exactly what made my skin crawl about her statement
It's perfectly okay with her that our soldiers are dying in huge numbers or coming home missing limbs and/or with post traumatic stress disorder, all the innocent Iraqi citizens who died because Bush has Daddy issues and wants to make his friends even richer ... as long as she doesn't hear about it. How can anyone be that callous and uncaring?
