I'm talking primarily about the live version, on "Live at Fillmore East".

For me, it's one of the great pieces of art produced by man. Right up there with Beethoven's Fifth, Mozart's best work, and Van Gogh's "Starry Nights" and other amazing paintings.

I can't think of a contemporary piece of music that beats it, including the great jazz work from Miles Davis.

1. Absolutely! Some brilliant guitar playing on that one,
especially live.

It is both beautiful AND an ass-kicking jamming tune. It kicks my ass.

I love it in the summer, in the convertible, flying down the highway. In fact, the entire Fillmore album is perfect for summer driving with the top down flying down the highway.

2. As I was listening to it today...
I was thinking that I was living very near Fillmore East when they were playing there. Yet I was not introduced to the Allmans until after Duane and Berry were dead. If only something had led my life in a direction that would have put me in that audience..

It's in incredible piece of music, and yes the guitar work is just unbelievable. Only Hendrix rivals Duane IMO.
