2. My overall reaction. FYI, I did not read the book. I don't think there are spoilers but....
who knows....

Okay, I saw the trailer a month ago and it represented the film as a comedy which it was not. Sure there were bizarre funny moments but it was no comedy.

I liked RWS, though it was far from excellent. I liked it because of the really terrific acting. It just really held this film together. I am hard on acting performances -- but Annette Benning was amazing. Dr. Finch/Brian Cox, also amazing. So was the star whoever he is, as well as the girl that played Natalie and Alex Baldwin as the dad. Alex was so solid. I love him. He brings it to every role no matter how big or small. And the minor characters were superb. If I had one beef, it was with Jill Clayburgh as Dr. Finch's wife. She felt a bit flat, too odd and cartoonish.

I know this story is "true" but that doesn't really excuse the fact that it lagged a bit on the screen probably because no character was proactive about anything, until the very end. For the most part, everything sort of happened to the characters instead of them causing things to happen.
.
The story sort of floated by with events feeling like they were occurring randomly -- but this felt appropriate considering that prescription drugs are a big part of this film. I liked the 70's production design. And the way they captured the new age 70's vibe was perfect.

I was very dissappointed in the soundtrack. Nt adventurous. The 70's songs they chose for it were poor choices. How many times have we heard Bennie and the Jets, Blinded by the Light as well as a few others.

Overall, I'd give it a B.

The movie looked real good.

3. I read the book ages ago, and just from the previews...
I know I won't enjoy the movie. It's so different from the book in so many ways! Augusten is older in the movie than in the book and I didn't envision any of the characters the way the movie portrays them.

Ah, well....
