Why the emphasis on holidays?

I guess what bugs me the most about holidays are so many have been either created by, or taken over by, the shopkeepers.

Halloween candy.
How is it different from "regular" candy?

Pre-Thanksgiving and Christmas "sales."

And their are the manufactured holidays.
Father's, Mother's, and Grandparent's Day.

2. I am up with Father's and Mother's days because, really, so many

times we forget their contributions to our lives. I love honoring all my Dad has been for us. :hi:

At least, any day I see my Dad.

5. Christmas in particular brings out my anti-materialist side.

It's just all so horrid - take some crap, add some tacky bits, call it "Christmas-whatever", double the price. :puke:

And we're pressured into being with family that we don't like, otherwise we're "being selfish."

I love Christmas music, decorations, etc.

But I am *NOT* going to go into hock buying the latest garbage being shoved in my face by the hucksters.

And the religio-Nazis can go to their version of Hell, there is no "War On Christmas."
