3. Hiro, Hero.
It was the 3rd episode before I caught the homophone. Hiro and his buddy are the best element in the show so far.

4. you know Peter Petrelli? My daughter and i are debating his powers
We both agree that he can take on the superpower of whatever "hero" he's near, my daughter thinks the "Hero" can still use their power but i think they cannot as long as he's using it and thats why he's the one that must Save the cheerleader.

5. Oooh! You may be right.
He clearly absorbs the power of the nearest hero, and we haven't really seen the hero use his or her power at the same time as Petrelli.

24. I think he's more like Nemesis Kid from Legion of Superheroes
i.e. he has no distinct powers of his own but when he comes into contact with a powered person he gains their power, but only slightly better than the original person. The painter needs to be smacked out to see the future, Peter doesn't. Hiro transported back in time to talk to Peter but didn't lose the ability to leave in Peter's presence. Peter's brother caught him when he leapt from the building but said that Peter was flying on his own when they were really close to one another yet Nick Petrelli didn't say he'd lost the ability to fly, he just lost control.

I want to know if the cheerleaders step father is working for the government, or is he working on his own. What does he have over the black guy working for him. I mean the black guy could wipe his memory and do whatever he wants.

23. I disagree with Claire's Dad being a villain (possible spoilers)
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 11:28 AM by BigMcLargehuge
I think he's a McGuffin. Consider what we've seen of him since episode 1 -

Mohinder saw someone going through his father's things in the apartment in Bangalore. If I remember right it was Claire's dad, but he stayed hidden while Mohinder was there taking the paperwork away. He could have killed him easily, but he didn't.

Claire's Dad was a passenger in Mohinder's cab. He could have killed him there too, but did not. He did make menacing statements but didn't chase Mohinder when he bolted from the cab.

Clarie's Dad obviously knows of Claire's abilities, and were he evil, would have already set about steering them in a direction where she could be useful, yet he hasn't done that (yet). He hasn't even let her in that he knows, which is part of the McGuffin setup even going to such extent that he hires two people to play her biological parents to keep her in the dark about her abilities and their origin. He also gave her rapist and murderer a second chance when he could have killed him in the hospital room. Rather, he had his sidekick mindwipe him.

The psychic cop, captured and questioned and tested, released unharmed with that part of his life mindwiped.
Nick Petrelli, captured and questioned and tested, escaped unharmed though both Claire's dad and his mindwipe pal had pistols.

Eve could have killed Mohinder at any time over the last four episodes, yet didn't. She works directly with Claire's Dad.

I think Claire's Dad is part of a group seeking to stop Syler (the Patient 0) and needs the burgeoning Heroes to capture/kill him, but to make sure he has the right people he has to evaluate them first. Syler seems to possess at least all of the power's we've seen so far, plus some that have not been introduced (flash freezing).

10. i love heroes too!
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 07:22 AM by hyde
I was initially drawn to the show because it had so many actors and actresses that I really like. I'll give any show a chance that has either Hayden, Milo, or Ali in it. So I was downright giddy when I found out all three of them where in this show. I haven't been disappointed with Heroes. Sometimes I get frustrated with Lost, because it seems like after 3 years of faithful watching I barely know anymore than I did in the first episode, lol, but Heroes has maintained a nice balance, so far, of substantial reveals while at the same time keeping up the mystery and intrigue. Very good show.

13. I like that show a lot, but Lord, I am SO confused!
Who is the cheerleader? Is it the girl who can't be harmed? And, is her father figure her dad or her step-dad?

And, the woman who has the 'evil twin'...what are her powers and what is her husband's power? Apparently he killed her last night by shoving his fist into her stomach, but I can't keep up.

Thanks for any help with this.

16. Yes, the cheerleader is the "self-healing" girl.
She's adopted, so that guy in the nerd-glasses is her adoptive father (allegedly, this guy has a lot of secrets, so who really knows?).

I think the "evil twin" IS Nicki's power. Apparently it's a multiple personality thing where the "evil" Nicki is super-strong.

Her husband can apparently meld himself into whatever is around him, dissolving into walls, etc.

Don't know if this helps or not.

17. Yes, the cheerleader is the girl who is impervious to injury.
The father figure is an adoptive parent.

The evil twin character seems to be very violent but we rarely see her, only the damage she causes. Her husband's power is phasing (being able to pass himself through solid objects, like his wife's gut in last night's episode.) It did appear that he killed her, but who can tell with a superhero comic?

I made the mistake of pausing my TiVo half way through the episode and then fell asleep. And now, this this message!

I'll stop whining now and will watch the rest of the episode when I get home. It's rare that I actually get into a series, this year it's Heroes and Battlestar Galactica.

14. It's a great show!
My husband the comic artist was really skeptical about the show when it first came on. He complained about how stereotypical it all was, and he (being a DC Comics artist for many years) said it smacked of Marvel's story lines. However, he is now hooked too, and he has apologized for doubting the show. :P

22. My theory about the evil twin causing damage thingy:
It's not the evil twin causing the damage.

It's Hiro. Notice how there are people cut in half? And how Hiro was informed last night that future Hiro carries a sword? Methinks it's Hiro coming back from the future to protect the superheros. Which is also why Hiro and his buddy did not see who killed everyone at the poker party and why Hiro was unable to stop time and save everyone.

27. As I said, it's just a theory. And you may be right
But to me, the victims looked cut in half.

And it would make sense that current day Hiro was unable to stop the carnage because future Hiro was in the other room. Didn't his sidekick remark, after Hiro expressed his guilt, that he could come back and fix things when he becomes future Hiro? Maybe the thing that future Hiro was fixing was he and his friend being killed.

32. they cleaned the money she stole from her husband
remember D.L. said the cleaners said a girl came in and had them work on 2 mil, and that she was part of the "setup" that landed him behind bars. The poker players (at least one of them) was that cleaner and she eliminated him and whoever else was there to see her eliminate him, except Hiro and Anda who were in the broom closet.

the others Nikki killed were collateral damage (i.e. wrong place, wrong time). The poker game was held in the place where the guy cleaned the money.

38. Nerdy X-Men comparisons
Cheerleader = Wolverine
Peter Petrelli = Rogue
Hiro = Nightcrawler
Petrelli's Brother = Northstar
Vegas women's husband = Shadowcat
L.A. Cop = Jean Gray (not the best comparison)

The Vegas woman I suppose would match the Hulk. I really want them to go back to the whole Silar subplot, myself.

39. Really liking it so far
I think Hiro is my favorite character (at the moment, at least) because it seems like he "gets it" that he's supposed to help people, hence his depression at not being able to save the other players at the poker game. It also helps that he loves comic books and sci-fi, 'cause I can relate. I like how his friend, Ando, consoled him, telling him that being a hero is a journey and he can't expect to begin at the end of it and that he can always use his powers to come back and undo what happened.

Ando cracked me up last night, too--

Poker player: Y'all are goin' to the bathroom together?

Ando: That's how we roll.

I'm not sure why, but I thought that was hilarious.
