Former Principal Charged In Shooting Of Kittens

(AP) Indus, Minn. A former high school principal who shot two kittens outside a school here was charged Monday with felony possession of a dangerous weapon on school property.

Wade Pilloud, 38, was living in a mobile home on school property on weekdays and had set a trap set to catch skunks and woodchucks under the home. He said that after the trap killed a mother cat and he couldn't catch the kittens, he shot them so they wouldn't starve. While the shooting happened after school, some students still on the grounds heard the shots.

Pilloud resigned as principal after the Sept. 21 shooting, though the district said the safety of students was never compromised. Pilloud was also charged with reckless handling of a weapon and criminal damage to property, both gross misdemeanors.

Indus is on the Canadian border about 40 miles west of International Falls. The K-12 Indus public school has about 45 students in grades 10 through 12.
