6. Me either.
We are going into town for pizza, though. We will get to see a lot of the kids - everybody goes by the pizza place, maybe I should get a bag of candy to hand out too, didn't think of that.

Just good enough to discourage "tricks",
but not enough to encourage repeat customers.

12. I'm doing the ultimate in laziness tonight.
I put a big bucket of misc. treats (peanut kisses, tootsies, tootsie pops, etc..) on the front porch, with a sign that says "Help yerself - but please don't be greedy."

28. My mother used to do that with apples
Every year, she'd buy a bushel of apples at a local orchard and put them on the front porch with a sign that said, "Please take one. Happy Halloween".

For some reason, it used to mortify me.

Unfortunately, there don't seem to be too many kids trick-or-treating in my neighborhood this year. I've had about a half dozen.

21. Miscellaneous candy from the dollar store.
Lots of Tootsie Pops.

I see Halloween as a Civic Duty. I live in a small place and Halloween is very big here. First, it fosters community spirit. The kids are cute and their parents appreciate the participation.

Secondly, handing out candy nullifies reich-wing baloney against Halloween. If you're a kid who has fond memories of family/neighborhood fun, then you're less likely to fall for that right-wing-devil-halloween bullshit.

22. I got this 2.5# bag
of assorted sugar-loaded junk. Mr 'pede is in charge of handing out right now. I'm in the spare bedroom/office with the doggie. Who's not happy 'cause he knows something is up and besides it's past his dinnertime.

Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 07:27 PM by Radio_Lady
in Portland, Oregon -- the wind chill factor is fierce. We probably won't have as many young-uns as usual.

All the candy gets donated to a local shelter the next day. My husband overbought four packages of candy!

26. The tracts customers leave in the racking
For the last few months, I've been collecting and saving up all the tracts people leave in the store. I must have a hundred of them.

Not so strangely, there's not a lot of Chick tracts in the bag. Chick's tracts are comparatively expensive because they're thick and it takes more work on more machines to make one. You can get far more tracts for your money with the little trifolds that have the "if you died tonight, are you sure you will go to Heaven" line on the cover.

Anyway, I ran out of tracts in the first hour, so I turned the light off.

30. Nothing.
I live upstairs in an apartment complex. There is a large nice neighborhood down the street, that's where all the kids go. I have 1 candy bar on the off chance that some poor kid was stuck walking up and down flights of stairs for their candy this year. ;)
