I lost my precious kitty today
I had to have my Diva put to sleep today :-( She had a large tumor on her lungs and she was pretty miserable. Her decline was really fast, just over this last weekend really, it was so hard to watch. I have been crying off and on all day, never thought I would cry so much over a pet, but now I understand why people get so sad. She was 12 years old, spent 7 of those years with me, and I think she was the sweetest cat in the world. I will really miss her

I wish I had a picture to share, but I'm at work...

11. You saved her from any further suffering.
It's sad that you had to do it, and that you are in pain now, but you did the right thing. You prevented the certain suffering she would have had to endure if that had gone on any longer. You did her a huge favor, so you can try to feel good about that. She is in kitty heaven thanking you for releasing her from her from all that. It will become less painful as time goes along. I hope you feel better soon.

13. That's really how I felt about it too
The vet gave me some different options for treatment but the prognosis still wouldn't be very good. I never knew kitty's could have chemo, but if it's anything like it is for humans then I wouldn't have wanted her to go through that either.

15. I don't believe in putting them through all that, just to prolong their lives a little.
Edited on Wed Dec-13-06 03:50 PM by bob_weaver
You're really just prolonging their suffering, postponing the inevitable, and draining your bank account while making the vet richer.

It's so hard to lose a beloved beastie. They're as big a part of the family as any humans, in my humble opinion. I'll bet Diva is playing with our Fergie at the Rainbow Bridge!

28. I'm so sorry. What a time to do it.
I was miserable for weeks when we had to put down our cat we'd had for 18 years. Everytime I pass by the place where I went afterwards and cried in my lunch I'm still reminded. It's been three years now and I still miss her furry little cat self.

31. Oh, I am SO sorry! I love the name Diva.
I know how badly this hurts. And making the decision is the toughest thing. It's like an anvil hanging over your head for days and days. But, you gave her love and dignity right till the very end and she is happy and free and young again now!

My 12 year old cat is facing the same dilemna. Just a matter of time and I can hardly bear to think of it.

Hugs to you. It will get better.

I had to go through the same thing in May, with my cat, Smoke, who I had had since he was born 15 years ago. You just go ahead and cry, honey. Diva is out of pain now and in a better place. She's probably chasing mice with Smoke in kitty heaven.

40. RIP, Diva.
Poem For Cats

And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then? asked God.
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don't they understand? asked God
That you'll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is....forever and ever and ever.

Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am....forever and ever and ever.

"Diva" means "Goddess." What a perfect name for a cat. So sorry for your loss.
