I modified my clothes dryer so the drum spins the other direction...
...and now I can't find half my hats.

1. Maybe you could adjust
your dryer to spin one way for half the cycle and spin the other way for the remainder. Not only would you find your hats, I suspect socks would magically appear too.

2. It doesn't work that way.

A rotating dryer drum creates a minute tear in the space-time continuum, this is why socks frequently disappear - they come into contact with the tear and are instantly destroyed in our universe and created in another. Had Kirk done any real investigation in "Mirror Mirror" he would have found billions of socks in one of the landfills in the alternate universe.

If you modify your dryer to spin in both directions, the chances of creating multiple larger tears are infinitely greater - you risk losing your entire wardrobe, if not your entire laundry room.

5. OMG!
Thanks for the explanation. That makes perfect sense. You have saved me from a grave mistake.

6. So, since we can't necessarily create matter, the Earth is slowly disappearing
one sock at a time..

There's something to ponder.

10. Yes, but the potential PROFIT in finding that landfill makes the risk worthwhile.
The pre-owned hosiery game is NOT an ocupation
for the faint of heart, no matter what you may
have seen in the movies. It's a dirty, cut-throat
business where there is no gain without risk....or sacrifice.

I'm hardly the first to gamble the fate of the
entire universe just to make the cover of
"Secondhand Sock Market Insider's Quarterly".

3. Don't mess with the natural order!
Are you trying to blow a hole into the next dimension?

9. Well, kinda. A little one, anyway. My only real regret is....
...I never really spent enough time working
on my "evil laugh".

MuahHaHahahaaahaaaaa....*sigh*.
Needs work.

4. YOU'VE TAMPERED WITH THE ELEMENTAL FORCES OF NATURE!!
If you keep it up you'll generate a black hole and alter the space-time continuum!

7. Duh, silly.
Don't you know that dryers are SUPPOSED to spin counter-clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere? Put it back the way you had it, and your hats will spit out of the toilet.
