It's very very cold here in Minnesota...
right now, the temperature is -12 degrees F and the wind chill is -34 degrees F. My face froze instantly when I went outside today. I'm not leaving my warm apartment for the rest of the day.

How cold is it where you are?

4. Freezing in Seattle
in the 20s, supposed to have a big snowstorm tonight.

Way too cold for me. It actually makes my body hurt. I have fibromyalgia, and this cold doesn't agree with me. I'll take the rain and clouds any day...

16. Threadjack: I LOVE Kihei!
Been a couple times, stayed at the Surfside with all the geezers. "The air," said one, with a gravel voice, "S'like velvet, eh?" :)

And back to topic: thought I might take the sled dogs out today, went out to start the truck for Mrs. Robb this morning, had to pry the door open, started after two tries, and the little thermometer thingy said -18F.

Then I said, "I'm staying the hell home." :)

8. Yesterday
we went skiing on the Continental Divide here in Colorado, around 12,000'.

It was -10 with a 15-20 MPH wind more or less all day. That's about a -25 windchill.

Snow was great. The holiday tourists pretty much packed it in early - we skiied until they shut down the lifts. :)

45. I could handle the cold, if we had snow
Edited on Tue Jan-06-04 01:40 AM by NickB79
There's just something about a good deep coating of snow all around that makes the cold seem less biting, less harsh. It kind of softens the edge of winter, ya know? But this is like what, the 3rd year of almost no snowcover here in MN? We have patches of snow, patches of it here and there, but none of the feet-deep drifts and knee-high powder I remember as a kid on the farm. I miss that, I really do. So what if its harder to drive and you might get snowed in, it was worth it! :-)

Oh, and here in St. Cloud, MN it's -7 and falling (-10 to -15F predicted), windchill -20F. Oh, I just know some of my tree seedlings will get nipped back, between the rabbits and these snowless winters I'm amazed anything I've planted has survived.

22. graduate - LOL
I was a GI BRAT: England to Minnesota to Iowa to Illinois in less than 18 months. I lived with my aunt and cousins on Oak Street in Decorah for a few months 71/72 and walked to school - I believe it was grades 1 thru 9th grade (I was in 9th grade) - there was another school across the river for the rest of high schoolers. I went to three high schools.

20. weird....it's really f***ing cold in Minneapolis right now
The wind is mainly what's making it cold. I have my heater on low and it's still a little chilly in here, which is weird because my apartment is usually hot even in winter with the heater turned off. My roommate got back from work about an hour ago and her legs are _still_ cold, and she even had leggings on underneath her jeans.

The low tonight will be minus 5. Contrary to stereotype, Denver is not used to this type of freezing. Seasonal daytime temperatures for early January are the mid 40s.

24. -12?? Call that cold? How long have you lived there, friend?
It's not really cold until car exhaust is freezing outta the tailpipe & sticking to the street. It's not really cold until you can step outside at -15 and think "hmm, it's warmed up since this morning."

The rest of you may not believe it, but in Minnesota you get so you actually can tell the difference between -30 and -25.

Oh, by the way, I'm now in Pasadena. 67. Brrrr.

It's currently 22 degrees F. That's not cold for some areas in the country, but it's cold for this part of Oregon (Beaverton is a suburb of Portland).

Also, there's snow.

I hate the friggin' snow. Hate it, hate it, hate it, hate it.

I always keep it open to outside air, even if it's colder. Keeping it shut makes it foggy very fast. (for me, anyway, my dad could drive all day with the vent closed and it'd never fog up!)

44. I'm in Minneapolis
and this is my first real experience of below-zero weather since moving back here after 18 years in Oregon.

I'm newly surprised at how quickly things (keys in a purse, ungloved hands, legs clad in tights and corduroy pants) get cold after going outside.

The car lives outside, so even though I try to drive as little as possible, I'm taking the beast out for a run every day, just to keep the battery charged.

Whe I lived in Oregon, the coldest I ever experienced was +7 at night, and that was once in 18 years.
