7. Tie for me
I like "Shawshank Redemption" and one I don't believe is on the list, "I Am A Fugitive From A Chain Gang".

But if you're looking for good cheesy fun, you can't go wrong with "Caged" the classic "women in prison" film from 1950.

as a choice.
I also would have voted Shawshank Redemption. Prison movies are a favourite of mine all round.

11. A great one that's not on your list: "Slam."
A small independent film made in the late 90's about a black poet who gets popped for selling a quarter ounce of weed and is facing two years in the slammer. In my opinion it is the most realistic look into our nation's prison system and the futility and destructive nature of our war on drugs. An under appreciated little gem this film is.

On your list though, "The Shawshank Redemption" is my favorite.

19. Technically, yes
because they are escaped prisoners. I only liked the first half of that film though. I thought it lost its way in the 2nd half. just my opinion

15. I prefer the prison films about women's prisons with lesbian overtones.
That's a bizarre and hilarious genre. Not porn flicks, but still quite suggestive.

21. A few others:
I thought that "Life" (with Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence) was a good one.

Would "Spartacus" be in there anywhere?

Or "Midnight Express"?

24. From your list...
of those I've seen, I like all of them. Just the same, wanted to give some love to "Birdman of Altcatraz"

Granted, the screenplay is historically flawed and flatters the real-ilfe protagonist falsely. Still, the film is amazing and is a biting condemnation of the American prison system.

27. The Rat Tamer
It's a "small movie" from Australia, I think. Pretty good story about a female psychologist in a men's prison.

Not as grandiose as the ones listed (I voted Cool Hand Luke), but nice.
