Winter weather advisory, sub-zero temps forecast - ask me anything
It's so cold, Hell is freezing over.

(Ah, the things only Michiganders can say. The rest of you are suckers.)

1. It is absolutely wild here at the Kent / Allegan County line
And the pic's I've seen of Lake Michigan lead me to believe the Gods are pretty pissed about something. Must be Bush.

6. Happily, my elderly cousins from Macatawa are in Hawaii right now...
They are five houses in from Lake Michigan and a block from Lake Macatawa, quite close to Big Red. It's a beautiful place, but with this west wind that is freezing me in suburban Chicago....

14. I am sure...
That is one beautiful lighthouse.

I could not believe the houses built way up on the dunes in Macatawa. It was obvious that they were not accessible during winter. My cousins' house is low down, and their daughter lives close in a rural area towards Saugatuck. On mostly flat land.

I had not been there before last September, except to pass through when I was a teenager. I love the area....except for the politics.

15. Sadly, the lakes are being eaten up by developers. It was so much better
when I was a kid growing up. It's all starting to look like a mini Miami. Still great tho'. The lighthouses up by Ludington are pretty special too. The cottages by Macatawa that are built in the dunes have been there for generations. But the "new" generations are tearing them down and either building new stuff or selling out. The drive from Holland to Grand Haven is pretty if you ever get the chance to take it.

Saugatuck was all sub zero temp's today with total white outs. Storms near the lake are cool...unless you're driving in them.

27. My cousins' house is quite old...and they are expanding it.
Their daughter lives in what I think is probably Saugatuck...but out in the country on 20 acres.

That's a really beautiful part of Michigan.

3. I talked to my mom a while ago in Kalamazoo -
She said it was 7 degrees, and that they closed the MALL because of the weather. It must be pretty bad there, because Michiganders are TOUGH when it comes to winter weather. I remember going to school in weather the rest of the country would have closed down for.

Wind Chills are at -30 to -40

Michigan is warm compared to MN, I spent years there in school and winters were a cakewalk.

11. There's so much more to weather, though...
Seasons become a profound way of marking time for me. I also didn't like having to drive so far in heavy traffic to commune with nature. Especially because it seemed when I got there, my whole neighborhood had followed me...:+

23. And that's supposed to make me not love living in LA?
Yeah, okay. :eyes:

We've got BUSH in the white house--that should make us hate living anywhere in the country. :eyes:

Another gorgeous day here, by the way. And the "boring" weather means I never have to shovel snow, don't have to wait 15 minutes for my car to warm up, or bundle up in twelve layers of clothes to avoid frostbite. Besides, California does have a change in seasons, it's just a different kind of rhythm than, say, New England. I'll take my 75 and sunny in the middle of winter, thank you very much.

Wisconsin right now, with a high expected to be -2. I didn't leave the house yesterday, and suspect I'll be housebound again today. Hmmmm . . . just maybe will be able to catch up on those indoor chores.

28. Do you think that your car will start alright?
I, in Wisconsin, am sort of concerned about that tomarrow since I have to go to work. Work is only a mile away, but I'd rather not hike to or from work in this weather.

Mine will usually start up until about -10F without it being plugged in.
