Tin Foil Hat. My computer and DU.
Here's my situation. Over the last month or so, my cable modem signal gets interrupted when I'm on DU. It's usually temporary but still annoying. This doesn't happen on other sites. Today it has gotten worse. Cable signal gets interrupted and I lose all internet access. I've had to reboot the modem twice.

Is there a virus out there that targets computers accessing DU or am I just being paranoid?:tinfoilhat:

6. Why did the Mods move my post
from GD to the Lounge yet allow a discussion of the Bush brand of chile to remain in GD?

7. I join you under the tinfoil
I've once lost a lengthy post which I spent over 2 hours on once recently because of this. I've done a lot of purging and defragging and complaining to my internet provider. Problem seems to have gone away although a couple of nights back the DU got interrupted twice for me. Unlike prior experiences, this time I only lost DU and My Space. In those other times I was kicked offline entirely...at one point I could barely stay online longer than an hour! It has been suggested to me by one equally computer challenged friend, that we are being accosted by computer geeks with a differing political opinion than we have...

I'm not paranoid. I'm running an anti virus scan as we speak.

10. Please understand that I'm am barely computer literate
...I still have NO clue where my problems may have come from...my ineptitude is just as likely a cause as "evil republican geek-trolls from Alpha Centauri". I DID discover that my system WAS badly fragmented but the defragging did little to resolve the problem. My service provider found nothing out of the ordinary to report either. It is likely coincidence but the day my problems disappeared was the day I unplugged from an old power-strip and plugged into an extension cord which connected to a GFI in my bathroom...(my bedroom plug which the power-strip was plugged into was an old one lacking that third grounding hole).

What I am saying is I have NO CLUE if anyone can sabotage us in the way we feel we may be being sabotaged and even IF this is possible I am equally clueless if that sabotage is being perpetrated on us. (Although if you could have seen that post I was so dilligently working on....I guarantee you that the bushbots were quite happy it never saw the light of day!!!)
Good luck my fellow DUer...

14. Here is something a fellow duer provided me
There were 2 items which may be of use to you... for what it is worth, two nights ago when I was being interrupted from DU, there was a red critical around one of the boxes on the internet health report. When I clicked that box it brought up further info referring to Seattle-San Fransisco and a city back east. I live just south of Seattle so perhaps this may have had something to do with my problems from the other night.

9. There have been a lot of "Bugs" lately. And, I just got New Computer with Wireless
but it started with my old Computer when I had "Dial Up" and was on WIN Millenium.

Lots of bugs...lots of spyware and stuff but not from here...maybe just the sites linked here have them embedded and there's no way to go round it...except to keep your "SpyWare" and such very UP TO DATE!

15. No doubt about that.. I read a thread on the unmentionable website
in regarding the lawsuit by pabsugenis. Apparently they were tracking the thread here by pabs and one of them mentioned that pabs had PM'd one of his buddies to kick the thread up.

How else can someone read a DUer's PM unless he/she hacks into the program.

Not only that but when I was reading DU on my dad's computer and he would run his anti-virus program, all kinds of trojans would come up that appeared to originate from DU.

11. No problems here...
Maybe Agent Carol (she's married to Mike) wants me to cruise the Star Trek forums instead.

Mind you, I use DSL...

I think you're paranoid... how many people are on your cable segment? Shared bandwidth and somebody overloading it may or may not be relevant...

13. I would only notice it when I was on DU too - because that is where I spend the vast majoity
of my internets time.

The site was buggy a couple of times this week - for everybody, but a modem problem is likely on your end.
