My cat has this...er...odd whisker thing

I was just petting our cat Sophie and my hand kept coming across something sharp near her eye. At first I thought it was a bit of crud, but it turned out to be what looks like a whisker growing on her eyelid. It's about a quarter of an inch long hair that's as thick and stiff as a whisker. It's not bothering her except when I mess with it. Really weird. I'm calling the vet tomorrow. They're already beginning to think that I'm some kind of a crackpot cat hypocondriac and this isn't going to help matters any.
