Can dogs get laryngitis...?
...and if so, how long does it take? 'cause my @*#&$ neighbor's freakin' dog has been practicing barking for 4 solid hours now. Visits from Animal Control, the constable, the cops, and a letter from the civic association later, the neighbor STILL does not get it.

Sigh.

2. bummer
I'm not a dog person, but I don't have anything against dogs per se. I find some dog owners to be complete arseholes (specifically about the whole dog ownership thing), but hey.

3. Dogs can and do get every ailment that humans get.
Laryngitis is usually caused by infection or irritation of the larynx. The difference is that while a human larynx has evolved to emit sound in what we've come to call "conversation level", canines have evolved to emit sound to be heard over a very wide territory for long periods of time.

Don't blame the dog - he's just doing what nature intended for him to do. Dogs have to be trained to live in human society.

5. Oh, I blame the humans alright
The poor dog is left outside at all hours of the day and night, sometimes in their garage, and he freaks out and barks his head off. I'd do the same thing if I was in his paws - the owners don't get that a dog is not a toy. The dog is so freaked out that he's escaped from the neighbor's yard several times, gutted and spread their garbage all over our front yard, and almost jumped a landscape guy who was working at the house on the other side. It's not right for the dog. I just wish he'd be a tad more quiet about it.

4. Yes, they can. And I hope your neighbor's dog does that. Not MUCH more irritating than
a constantly-barking dog. I've MOVED because of that, so I do know what you're going through.\

6. Thanks
Sorry you had to move because of it - it's a MAJOR irritant. The neighbors just don't give a sh*t about the poor dog. In the meantime, I can't use my yard or even put my trash out - or sometimes even be in my kitchen! - without the incessant barking.

The guys next door don't speak a stitch of English, which of course makes matters worse. :(

9. Yes, that's what we had as well. We couldn't sit on OUR fucking patio and have a conversation,
because THEIR damn dog wouldn't stop barking.

Assholes.

12. I got home this afternoon and the damn dog was LOOSE
and running around in the front yard of the next door neighbor on the other side of our house. We live on a pretty major street, and it could have gotten killed 20 times over. I had my phone, I took pictures, and tomorrow I'm calling Animal Control again. I don't know what else to do. Dog deserves humans who pay attention to him. :(

7. Next time you go out to a steakhouse....
ask for some bones in a doggie bag...

Keep it in the freezer and when he starts barking, toss one to him in the back. He'll hush for a while...hopefully.

Just a thought...I keep my girls inside. They got a doggie door but spend most of their time w/ me or my bro. When you neglect doggies, they tend to do stuff like bark all night.

11. The beagle comes in at the first bark.
Nothing more irritating than a beagle bark, so I don't leave her out when she starts. In fact, she now barks once and waits for me to come and get her. Barking in the yard is VERBOTEN!!

13. I wouldn't do that--wouldn't want any responsibility for what could happen
Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 09:26 PM by Whoa_Nelly
What if the dog chokes on it? What if it makes him sick (friend's dog can't eat steak bones because the poor pooch gets the runs from'em) :yoiks:

10. Yes. The beagle came home with laryngitis after I boarded her for the first time
Apparently she spent the whole weekend barking at the other dogs. She was hoarse for 3 or 4 days.

And, I must admit, it was kinda funny, a beagle unable to bark. Kinda.
