You're running for President. What is your campaign's theme song and why?
Bill Clinton used Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop Thinking about Tomorrow" with effectiveness. So let's say it's 2016 and you're in the hunt for his old job. What popular song would you use at campaign rallies, the convention, and beyond? It has to capture both your vision for America and your personality.

Go.

1. "Sultans of Swing"
Combines my optimistic Mideast policy with my courting of the battleground states. Not sure which part addresses my skill at horrible puns.

2. I Love Everybody (Especially You)--Lyle Lovette
I love everybody
Especially you
I love everybody
Especially you
So if you feel lonesome
Remember it’s true
I love everybody
Especially you

It’s not the long lashes
Or lips on your face
And it’s not your bosoms
That time can’t erase
And it’s not those long slender
Legs on your feet
Your mind is the feature
That makes me remember

I love everybody
Especially you
I love everybody
Especially you
So if you feel lonesome
Remember it’s true
I love everybody
Especially you

4. I don't think there's a better song for that than Talkin' Bout a Revolution
Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 09:47 AM by Strawman
By Tracy Chapman. I hate seeing politicians appropriate it when they don't fucking mean it, but that's a perfect song. I'm a sucker for any unworthy politician who plays that at a rally.

6. "True" by Concrete Blonde.
Well when I've had enough,
I'll get a pick-up truck and I'll drive away.
I'll take my last ten bucks just as far as it will go.

Ahh sometimes I'm easily fooled,
I take a painful step and I get knocked back two.
I do all I can and it's all I can do, but I'm true.

And if I had the choice I'd take the voice I got
Cause it was hard to find.
You know I've come too far to wind up right back where I started.
Ahh they tell me who I should be,
I'll never let the monkeys make a mess of me.
I give all I can and it's all I can do,
But I'm true.

One more sunset
Lay my head down - true
One more sunrise
Open my eyes up - true

And then they talk you up and then they talk you down
And you begin to doubt.
Sometimes the reasons seem so very far away.
Ahh but I'd stop breathing today,
but if I can't walk proud, I'd rather walk away.
I do all I am and it's all I can do,
Oh I'm true.

I'd give all I am and I'd give it to you.
So true.

11. "Frankenstein," Edgar Winter Group
No reason except that it kicks major ass, and it's an instrumental, so voters can use their own interpretation of the song to determine the meaning. Plus, if elected, I would have it replace "Hail to the Chief," as it would just sound cooler at those events.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the president of the United States."

"Duh-duh-duh-duh-da-duh-duh-DAH-duh-duh-duh-duh...."

12. "Handle With Care"
The Traveling Wilburys.

Handle With Care
Been beat up and battered around,
Been sent up and I've been shot down,
You're the best thing that I've ever found,
Handle me with care,

Reputations changeable
Situations tolerable
But baby, you're adorable
Handle me with care

I'm so tired of being lonely
I still have some love to give
Won't you show me that you really care

Everybody's got somebody to lean on
Put your body next to mine and dream on

I've been fobbed off, and I've been fooled
I've been robbed and ridiculed
In day care centers and night schools
Handle me with care

Been stuck in airports, terrorised
Sent to meetings, hypnotised
Overexposed, commercialised
Handle me with care

I've been uptight and made a mess
But I'll clean it up myself, I guess
Oh, the sweet smell of success
Handle me with care

18. I'd use that song from The Biggest Loser --
seriously, it gives me goosebumps every time I hear it...

"What have you done today to make you feel proud?"

C'mon!

I look into the window of my mind
Reflections of the fears I know I've left behind
I step out of the ordinary
I can feel my soul ascending
I am on my way
Can't stop me now
And you can do the same

What have you done today to make you feel proud?
It's never too late to try
What have you done today to make you feel proud?
You could be so many people
If you make that break for freedom
What have you done today to make you feel proud?

Still so many answers I don't know
Realise that to question is how we grow
So I step out of the ordinary
I can feel my soul ascending
I am on my way
Can't stop me now
And you can do the same

What have you done today to make you feel proud?
It's never too late to try
What have you done today to make you feel proud?
You could be so many people
If you make that break for freedom
What have you done today to make you feel proud?

We need a change
Do it today
I can feel my spirit rising
We need a change
So do it today
'Cause I can see a clear horizon

What have you done today to make you feel proud?
So what have you done today to make you feel proud?
'Cause you could be so many people
If you make that break for freedom
So what have you done today to make you feel proud?
What have you done today to make you feel proud?
What have you done today
You could be so many people?
Just make that break for freedom
So what have you done today to make you feel proud?

21. "It's All Over Now", the Dirty Dozen Brass Band with Dr. John vocals
sort of the same idea as Clinton's ("Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone!"), but much, much cooler. If nothing else, the campaign will have succeeded in bringing brass band music to a wider national audience, along with, one hopes, a renewed sense of urgency in rebuilding its birthplace.
