Do any of you own anything made in East Germany?
I have these complete Stasi uniform I bought off of eBay but it is too small. I think Americans are a lot bigger than people of other countries since just about any item of military clothing I have picked up will not fit, from spiked helmets to great coats!

1. Ok so nobody else buys such strange things.
Or hunts down oddities on eBay. I don't eat at the Olive Garden though.

2. I used to own an RFT Funkwerk Leipzig tube condenser mic.
It used a large diaphram Neumann element and it had it's power supply and preamp built into it. Large, it had a wonderful sound. Sold it on the 'bay. I don't have anything else from the GDR, so maybe this post is OT.

4. Yes. I've heard of them.
I have Minox and some old Pentax cameras, but nothing nice like that. It's just as well, as I'm no photog. I do have some W German tubes and a W German tube PA amp that I am modifying but that's not a big deal. What cars were produced in the DDR?

BTW, I found a pix of the type of mic I had.

8. The one East German car I recall is the famous Trabant.
I wish I had a picture. In fact, I wish I had one. Might save some on fuel costs.

19. The first half of the line was broadcast by the BBC in the Spring of 1944 as an alert to
the French Resistance that the date for the Allied landings in Normandy had been set. The second half was broadcast to announce that the landings would begin in 24 hours.

18. A harmonica
It's a "Weltmeister," a big high-end tremolo harpoon. Mom and Dad bought it on a trip to the USSR in 1969, I guess it's high time I learned how to play the damn thing.

27. Yes, I have a couple things - I had an East German stay the night last October
and he gave me a couple gifts.

Though I suppose they are just technically German, since they were made after The Wall came down.

I asked the guy, who was about 5 or 6 when the The Wall came down, what he remembers changing the most. I found his answer very interesting: he said that what he remembers most is the toys became more colorful.

31. We might be visiting that part of Germany this summer
depending on what Der Shrub does in the betweentime. That is an interesting point about the more colorful toys. More colorful buildings too from the pics I've seen.

I forgot to say I got some kind of tour guide to Luther's Wittenberg with some books I bought from a pastor. So I have one book besides that uniform I mentioned above.

35. No I don't
I find the look of the Trabant to be appealling, but practical they aren't.

There has been quite a nostalgia about the DDR in the last five years, especially in high-unemployment eastern Germany. However I wouldn't have wanted to live under the DDR system.
