Wellstone's alma mater vs Nixon's alma mater
Who are you pulling for in this week's UNC / Duke basketball games? Obviously there's only one correct answer to this question.

1. Yes, there is!
:D

I go for Nixon's alma mater. But don't forget the other alumni, some of whom are actually decent people. They include Benjamin Chavis Jr (civil rights leader) and Eleanor Smeal (Feminist Majority); Melinda Gates (Bill's wife and a philanthropist); Reynolds Price (famous literature professor and writer); Randall Wallace (writer of Braveheart, We Were Soldiers, etc.); Dan Abrams (MSNBC); John Feinstein (sports writer); Charlie Rose (60 Minutes); and a bunch of athletes including Grant Hill.

Sure, we've had our share of skunks (Ken Starr, Nixon, Elizabeth Dole, etc.).

3. Nixon learned everything he needed to know about cheating and lying,
At Duke
Face it. The school is pure evil and the fate of the world depends on UNC's ability to be more proficient at throwing basketballs through hoops this week
:)
ps UNC is also the alma mater of the lead singer of Big Fun in Heathers. Top that. I dare you.

2. Oooh...
My mom's a UNC grad, along with about half of my extended family, so I guess there's your answer. ;) (The problem for me arises when UNC plays NCSU - my dad's alma mater. I think the secret to their 25-years-and-counting marriage is the fact that neither one cares much about sports...otherwise, things could get a bit nasty.) :P

4. Well, my husband is a Carolina fan
and we both care very much about our respective hoops teams, almost to the point of obsession. Our biggest fight ever in our over-7 years of wedded bliss was over a Duke/UNC game a few years back. We now laugh about it.

10. Oh, my apologies. I did think you were a Dookie. My sincerest apologies.
Actually, my 2nd favorite Piston is a Tar Heel, aka SHEED. He and Tayshaun Prince work quite well together.

There's a time and place for that but we'll have none of that stuff here, not as long as I'm making the rules

14. When I was in high school...
I had this teacher that was a grad of UNC so we would always have "words" this time of year and any time Duke would lose, she would send a messenger down in the middle of one of my classes to deliver news clippings of the loss just to rub it in. I got her back I stole a little Tar Heels ram that she kept in her car and held it for ransom...I did give it back unharmed though. I really do love this rivalry

16. Dookies: animal abusing kidnappers
As if more proof was needed of UNC's complete and total superiority

Holding a poor innocent ram hostage. Shame, shame, shame. The poor thing must have been terrified.

15. Go Heels, beat Dook
When my Dad was at UNC, we lived in Married housing (101 Bernard Street #B) and I wandered the Chapel Hill campus at will...I remember going into Carmichael and watching a young(ish) Dean Smith run practices. This was 1967-1969......It was great, paradise for a kid......
