What's the best coffee?
Which brand or type of coffee do you think is the best? I mean, like stuff that can be picked from a store. Not something that would require me to travel to some far flung country or planet... Even though it's a matter of personal taste, I'm always willing to try different things... So what do you drink?

2. upscale grocery stores?
Obviously that's region specific, but what kind of stores fit in that category?

7. Most large metro areas have upscale grocers
The type of store where you just buy expensive cuts of meat or wine, not where you would do your everyday shopping.
In Phoenix that would be a store like AJ's, a division of Basha's grocery.

http://www.sweetmarias.com/

Seriously-- there is no comparison between this and the stuff you buy in grocery stores. That's not hyperbole. And the price of the top quality green beans is about half that of the old stale stuff on sale at the supermarket.

5. awesome... Nice website..
I never thought of doing it myself... I think I'll get a roaster as soon as I edu-ma-cate myself on the subject a bit more. :D Since I'm a big fan of coffee, it seems like a worthwhile investment... Plus, based on what I read so far, it looks like it might end up saving money in the long run...

6. Mmm... coffee... I like several kinds --
I'll buy the Dunkin' Donuts kind sometimes, somtimes Starbucks, sometimes those specialty types at the grocery store - depends on how much I want to spend and what flavors they have :D.

Right now I'm finishing off a lb. of DD.

Decafe makes me gag.

I ordinarily avoid all flavored coffees, but this has some kind of wonderful spice added...heavenly aroma and smooth taste. I pick it up whenever I can find it. :9

9. Buy the whole roasted beans and grind 'em yourself.
Even with cheapo beans, your coffee will be way tastier that way. The beans start to go stale a few minutes after they're ground, so I gaurantee you'll notice a taste difference between what you do yourself and pre-ground stuff you buy in a can.

And to add another level of yum, try brewing your coffee in a press instead of an automatic drip machine. Ho. Lee. Shit.

12. The best coffee I've ever had, outside a restaurant,
Was some kind from Hawaii. I was staying with a friend who has a timeshare there and she brings back loads of coffee. I really should have her bring me some.

I usually just buy whatever beans are on sale. I have a French press and you have to be really trying to make a bad pot of coffee.

19. Actually...
Edited on Wed Feb-07-07 02:00 PM by Chan790
and I'm well aware of the fact that as a barista I'm being overly picky here, but coffee beans are actually the pits of a fruit related to cherries, roasted until they explode like popcorn.

Ergo, it should be: "hot fruit-pit-water...yum."

Edited: Dirty little secret...I hate coffee too. I only drink tea at work.

21. Home-roasted Burr-Ground French-pressed Yemeni Irregular.
Of course most people don't have an hour to make themselves a cup of coffee in the morning, nor the desire to invest several hundred dollars in equipment.

You'll never have a better cup of coffee than that though.

And quite yummy for an everyday coffee.

Give it a try.

Yes, I've tried much of the exotic, not-in-your-regular-grocery-store blends too.

I'm talking everyday stuff.

Nothing like a little coffee with your chicory. :bounce:

The freeze dried is called CDM and it is a little cheaper.

29. I like Dunkin Donuts made in a French press.
The coffee comes out so tasty made in the press. Richer and thicker than drip. I like a hit of canned whip cream on the top and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Delish!!!

grocery store coffee is S&W Columbian, imo. No, it's not better than a good fresh columbian bean ground at home right before brewing but it is the best coffee I've ever tasted from a can.
